Students of all ages come to us with diverse backgrounds and ability levels. Whether they have physical, cognitive, sensory or emotional disabilities, they benefit from riding and working with the horses at our center. For children and adults with disabilities, the equestrian experience is life-changing. No other therapeutic recreational opportunity benefits so many aspects of a disability in such

a holistic way. Bright Star students have competed in a variety of shows for riders with special needs, as well as open, able-bodied horse shows. Our lesson horses are retired show horses that have experience in all classes. Classes are offered in a variety of disciplines: English and Western, including pleasure, trail and showmanship.

So very sad to hear of the passing of Tucker’s Daddy! Such an exquisite horse with so many champions in his offspring. Our hearts are with Masterson Farms, LLC.

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we join the entire equine community in mourning the loss of a true legend — RL Best of Sudden.

There are few names as universally respected or as deeply admired in the world of western performance horses as “Bo.” His influence as a sire is simply unmatched, but beyond the statistics and titles, RL Best of Sudden brought elegance, heart, and consistency to everything he passed on. He reshaped the industry and set a standard that will be felt for generations.

Our deepest condolences go out to Ken and Marilyn Masterson and every person lucky enough to be part of Bo’s extraordinary journey. We are holding you in our thoughts during this unimaginable time.

Run free, Bo. Thank you for everything you gave this world — you were, and always will be, one of the greats.

🖤

Hello all! My name is Ashlyn Gonzalves, and I’m so incredibly honored to introduce myself as the 2025 SCQHA Queen. Becoming Queen has been a dream of mine ever since watching SCQHA and Congress Queen Amy Brown be crowned at my very first Congress back in 2016, and I am so excited to run for the title this year.

To know a little more about me: I’m 22 years old and a recent graduate of UNC Chapel Hill with my Bachelors in Biology. During my undergraduate years, I was heavily involved in research where I investigated the connection between pollution and the rise in childhood peanut allergies. I’m currently working as a nursing assistant while taking a gap year before medical school.

As a youth, I showed the all around and competed with the SCQHA NYATT team back in 2018. I’ve also been a volunteer with Bright Star Stables for many years, and had the privilege of coaching at several Special Olympics competitions.

More recently, I’ve enjoyed learning the hunter/jumpers as part of the UNC Club Equestrian Team as well as starting a breeding program with my beloved childhood show horse.

I want to send a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the Queen’s competition, and I’m looking forward to the year ahead! 🩵👑
