The Blind Spot Animal Sanctuary (BSAS) is a plant based, nonprofit, (501(c)(3)), farm animal sanctuary based in Rougemont, NC. BSAS is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff that cares for over 100 farm animals that reside on a beautiful 41 acres farm. Through no fault of their own, countless farm animals are hurt, neglected, slaughtered, abandoned & many find themselves in overcrowded s

helters. Here at Blind Spot we fight for these animals every day through education and our life saving efforts. Many of the animals we rescue came to us from overcrowded shelters, were rescued from starvation, abuse, slaughter or severe neglect. Here at the Sanctuary, every animal is provided with lifesaving and routine veterinary care, personal attention, individual care, proper housing and diet. Most importantly, every animal gets a chance to lead a natural, healthy and meaningful life. Blind Spot not only actively saves lives but also has an adoption program and focuses on education. BSAS team places adoptable animals in carefully screened forever homes and hosts free educational tours throughout the year. The founders speak at NC State, host students and hold seminars. Blind Spot cares deeply about its community. And, in times of crisis, BSAS is there to help. During Hurricanes Florence and Michael, Blind Spot offered refuge for families that had large animals and nowhere to put them and were in danger from floods. During Covid-19, BSAS assisted close to 300 farm animals and ensured they had full bellies while their humans were trying to get back on their feet. BSAS is home to countless residents, including horses, donkeys, pigs, goats, alpacas, chickens, sheep, emus, and peacocks. BSAS is changing mindsets & is one of the most active rescue organizations in NC. Vision Statement

“The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

To live in a world where
- There is no need for animal rescue or shelters
- All animals are treated with respect and care throughout their life
- Society enjoys the wonder and miracle of animals, making it senseless to use animals for entertainment or experimental purposes

Update on Pedro 🤍

Our little guy woke up understandably sore this morning. Normally, Pedro now runs to the fence the moment he sees people, eager for attention and snacks, but today he chose to stay tucked safely inside his house.

Alex quickly gave him his medications, and thankfully, once the pain meds started kicking in, he began feeling much more comfortable 🙌 Our team is checking on him throughout the day and closely monitoring for any bleeding or complications while making sure he is healing ok.

No matter how many surgeries you witness or how many animals you help nurse back to health, it never gets easier emotionally. If anything, the longer you do this work, the more aware you become of how fragile life truly is. Every procedure carries risks, every recovery matters, and when lives are depending on you, the nervousness never really goes away.

Please continue sending Pedro all your love, healing thoughts, and positive energy as he recovers 🤍

Sorry to burst your bubble… but “teacup pigs” do NOT exist. 😅🐷

Meet Randolph: December ➡️ NOW. Turns out he didn’t stay “tiny” 🤣 because pigs grow and mature until they’re 4–5 years old and can live 15–20+ years!

Tiny piglets become big pigs. Every. Single. Time. 😂

Help us bust the myth and save pigs from heartbreak and abandonment. SHARE this with someone who still believes in teacup pigs! 💕

💛 Pedro Update

Friends, those of you familiar with goat and sheep neuters know these procedures are not easy to look at, but they are so important for their long-term health and well-being. This is why we strongly advocate for neuters to only be performed by licensed veterinarians where animals are safely sedated, pain is managed compassionately, and skilled professionals ensure the best care possible.

And today, Pedro was surrounded by exactly that kind of care.
The sweetest part? The veterinary team couldn’t stop talking about how bright, happy, and healthy he now looks. These are the same people who treated him when he was first rescued as an unwell little friend. Today, he sprinted to greet people like a completely different goat. Seeing that transformation brought tears to our eyes. 🥹

Pedro’s surgery went well and was thankfully quick. Dr. Cathy also gave him his final lice treatment, boosted his CDT vaccine, and even trimmed his little feet while he was under anesthesia. He’s now resting comfortably, waking up here and there before drifting back to sleep.

Over the next few days, we’ll be monitoring him closely, checking his incision site and keeping him comfortable with pain medication as he heals.

Every single donation, share, comment, and word of encouragement has helped get Pedro to this moment, one step closer to finally joining his adoptive home and living safely among other goats. 🐐💕

If you’d like to continue supporting Pedro’s recovery journey, please consider donating, sharing this post, or sending him some love in the comments. Your support truly changes lives.

Sweet Pedro could use all the love and positive thoughts today as he heads in to get neutered ❤️

This little guy has already been through so much in his short life, yet he continues to show kindness, trust, and resilience despite everything humans have put him through.

Please send Pedro some encouragement for a smooth procedure and easy recovery 🐐✨ Drop him some love in the comments and share to help remind the world that farm animals deserve compassion too.

“Imagine if the animal the world told you to ignore… was just waiting to be loved.” 🐷💔

Pigs are not food machines. They are intelligent, emotional, playful beings who feel fear, joy, loneliness, and love just like the dogs and cats we cherish in our homes.

Every pig deserves safety. Every pig deserves kindness.
Every pig deserves compassion.

The way we treat the most vulnerable says everything about us.

Please help us change the way the world sees farm animals by sharing this video. Every share helps open hearts for pigs trapped in the blind spot of compassion. 🐽❤️

✨ Friends, we are officially reopening for tours! ✨
Our first for the year is May 31!!!!

This is not a petting zoo experience.
This is something entirely different.

When you visit:
• You’ll be guided through the sanctuary with intention and care
• You’ll learn the real stories behind rescue, recovery, and second chances
• Animals are never forced to interact & their comfort and autonomy always come first
• You’ll witness authentic moments… the quiet kind that stay with you long after you leave

Sanctuary tours are powerful because they create connection.
And connection is what builds compassion.

When people meet animals like Randolph and his friends, something shifts, hearts open, perspectives change, and the idea of “just a pig” or “just a goat” disappears forever.

That’s why we’ve made our tours completely free because everyone, including low-income families, deserves access to something meaningful, peaceful, and a little bit magical 💫

If you’ve been needing a reset, a moment of calm, or a reminder of what kindness looks like… this is your invitation.

👉 Visit our website to sign up for a tour
👉 Spots are limited, so don’t wait
👉 Bring a friend who needs this as much as you do

WARNING: This is the reality farm animals endure every single day. 💔

I took this video right after last week’s livestock auction.
An auction of a rescued farmed animal… something society would rightfully be horrified by if this were happening to dogs or cats.

But farm animals have always existed in the blind spot of the public silently enduring neglect, suffering, fear, slaughter and abandonment with very few people speaking up for them.

Pedro is one of those victims.

Male goats especially often face an incredibly grim reality. Because they are viewed as “useless” by many in agriculture, they are frequently the first to be neglected, abandoned, dumped at auctions, or sent to slaughter. Their lives are often treated as disposable simply because they cannot produce milk or babies.

Pedro clearly endured a lot in his short life:
being painfully skinny, covered in lice, scar from an embedded collar, and carrying an untreated injury. Yet despite everything, Pedro remains gentle, trusting, and full of love.

And now… he finally has a chance. ❤️

Over the last few weeks, Pedro has been healing, gaining strength, receiving vet care, proper nutrition, safety, and kindness, things every animal deserves.

Tomorrow is a big day for him: his neuter appointment, another important step toward the amazing forever home waiting for him. ❤️❤️

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. Sedation and surgery are always scary when an animal has already been through so much physically. But I’m hopeful the weeks of care, nourishment, and love have helped prepare his little body.

Please keep Pedro in your thoughts tomorrow.
And please remember animals like him matter just as much as the pets we share our home with!

Compassion should never depend on species. 🐐❤️

JUST BECAUSE A BABY ANIMAL IS ALONE DOESN’T MEAN IT NEEDS “RESCUING.”

Right now, well-meaning people are accidentally kidnapping healthy wildlife babies from their parents every single day. 💔

A fawn laying quietly in the grass? Mom is likely nearby.
A baby bird hopping on the ground? That’s often a fledgling learning to fly.
A bunny nest hidden in the yard? Mom only visits a few times a day to avoid attracting predators.

When humans intervene unnecessarily, babies can lose the chance to grow up with their own families in the wild. Many do not survive captivity, even with the best intentions.

Please remember:
🦌 Observe first
🐦 Give space
🪺 Keep pets away
📞 Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator BEFORE removing an animal

The kindest thing we can do is not always to pick them up — sometimes it’s to leave them exactly where they belong. 🌿

Compassion also means knowing when NOT to intervene.

📣 Please share this post to help educate others before another healthy baby animal is unnecessarily taken from its family.

🚨 URGENT TRANSPORT NEEDED FOR BABY BIRD 🚨
Rougemont to Cary NC

Friends, while we were at work today, someone dropped off a baby bird at BSAS. They said they were told to “leave it alone,” but they decided not to put the baby back.

We know people mean well, but this is such an important reminder: NOT every baby bird on the ground is abandoned. 💔

This little one was most likely exactly where he was supposed to be. When fledgling birds leave the nest, their parents continue feeding and teaching them how to fly. Removing them from their environment often does far more harm than good.

Now that this baby has been taken away from his parents and home, he can no longer be cared for naturally and his survival depends entirely on humans.

We are NOT a wildlife rescue, and this baby urgently needs specialized care. Close to Nature Wildlife Rehab in Cary, NC is willing to take him, but he must get there ASAP because he needs tube feedings at least 4 times a day to survive.

📍 We urgently need transport from Rougemont to Cary, NC TODAY so this baby does not starve.

If you can help transport, please comment or message us immediately.

Please also use this as a learning moment:
🪺 If you find a baby bird with feathers hopping on the ground, leave them be unless they are visibly injured or in immediate danger. Their parents are usually nearby watching and caring for them.

Wildlife belongs with wildlife whenever possible. ❤️

Who else gets personally offended by “healthy snacks”? 🤣🌿

Wally thought he hit the jackpot… until he realized it was parsley 😒🌿

Me on a diet: “This tastes amazing!”
Also me internally: chewing angry grass like Wally 🤣
