PRO K-9 is an innovative dog training and behavior modification company devoted to maximizing the human-canine relationship through individualized, affordable, results-focused in-home and social training programs. Since 2001, PRO K-9 In-Home Training Professionals has helped thousands of dogs and owners throughout Southeast Michigan achieve their training goals. We work with dogs of all breeds, temperaments and backgrounds, with a primary focus on rehabilitating dogs with social behavior issues. With over 20 years combined experience, we pride ourselves on our ability to solve behavior problems and teach effective obedience through a balanced approach using positive reinforcement training methods. Our training philosophy demands that owners be given the knowledge to build and maintain leadership, as well as the theories and methods for understanding and correcting current behavior problems, and preventing future ones. In 2024, we introduced our much anticipated Private Alumni Training & Activity Club — the PRO K-9 Pack. We spent the last decade specially designing the next level with our dedicated clients in mind. We rounded out our canine curriculum, adding unique options for clients maximize their dog's training, socialization, and confidence through advanced classes, specialized private sessions, activity clinics in sports like agility, educational events like pet first aid, plus private use of our private 10-acre property to safely play, explore and more. Our roots are in rescue, and we continue to provide training and behavioral support to local 501(c)3 rescues and shelters, which now includes a special program through the club.

🎃 Happy Halloween from Pro K-9! 🎃

Tonight’s the big night, and for our four-legged friends it can be a lot! Here are a few quick reminders to keep your pup safe and stress-free:

🍫 Keep the candy out of reach. Chocolate, xylitol (found in many sugar-free treats), and wrappers are no joke for dogs.

🚪 Plan for the doorbell. Set up a cozy spot away from the door with a chew or stuffed Kong. Practice “place” before the first trick-or-treater arrives.

🎭 Costume check. Make sure it doesn’t restrict movement, vision, or breathing. If your dog isn’t into it, a festive bandana works great!

🔦 Walking after dark? Use a leash, a light-up collar, or reflective gear, and keep a safe distance from crowds.

🏠 ID is a must. Doors open and close a lot tonight. Make sure tags and microchip info are up to date.

🎃🐶 Don’t Toss That Pumpkin! Here’s Why It’s Good for Dogs

Halloween is almost over, and a lot of us are wondering what to do with our pumpkins. Before they hit the trash, here’s why pumpkin can be a great treat for your pup:

🐾 Good for digestion. Pumpkin is high in fiber, which can help with mild tummy troubles like constipation or loose stools.

🐾 Low in calories. It’s a healthy way to add a little extra to meals or make treats.

🐾 Packed with nutrients. It has vitamins A and C and potassium.

🐾 Easy to use. Mix a little into their food, stuff it in a Kong and freeze it, or bake it into homemade treats.

How to serve it safely:
✅ Use plain cooked pumpkin or plain canned pumpkin (not pie filling!)
✅ Start small, about a teaspoon for little dogs up to a tablespoon or so for bigger dogs
✅ Remove the skin, stem, and stringy parts
✅ Plain, unsalted seeds are okay in small amounts

Skip these:
🚫 Carved pumpkins that have been sitting out, since they can grow mold or bacteria
🚫 Pumpkins with candle wax, paint, or glitter
🚫 Pie filling or anything with sugar, spices, or xylitol

If your dog has ongoing tummy troubles, check with your vet.

Our camera rolls: 5% training progress, 95% dogs asleep in questionable positions. 😴📸

We can teach a rock-solid down-stay, but nobody has taught our dogs that the bed is for sleeping, not for taking up all of it. 🛏️
