At Longview Mill, we offer three different levels of protein, all of which can be fed to all stages of beef cattle. It is designed to enhance forage utilization. Additionally, it has Postive Feed’s patented ingredient formula and the cooking process they utilized limits intake!
The most convenient way to control horn flies in beef and dairy cattle is to supplement with Postive Feed tubs containing Altosid® IGR Feed-Thru. Altosid® is an insect growth regulator (IGR).
Whats an IGR and how does it help control flies?
IGR (Insect Growth Regulators) in cattle minerals help control horn flies by disrupting their life cycle through the manure of treated cattle.
Horn flies bite cattle’s backs and midlines and can spread down their sides. Constantly fighting the bites causes irritations that can cause cattle to go off feed. To combat this problem, it is easier to attack flies where they lay their eggs and prevent the emergence of future populations.
The IGR is ingested into the cow and passes through the animal and into the manure, where horn flies lay their eggs. It breaks the horn fly life cycle, preventing pupae from developing into biting adult flies.
2000 flies can draw as much as one gallon of blood from a cow in one month!!!
