We had some special little guests on our dill, fennel, and rue—swallowtail caterpillars! To keep them safe, we gave them a cozy protected spot to grow… and now they will transform into beautiful butterflies!

Here in North Texas swallowtails lay their eggs on host plants dill, fennel and rue all summer long. Provide these host plants and some nectar flowers to create your own butterfly garden!

Garden tip! Ever wonder what those 3 random numbers on a fertilizer bag mean? Yeah, they’re not just there for decoration.

It’s all about the plant food trio:
N-P-K = Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Potassium
• Nitrogen = leafy growth
• Phosphorus = roots & flowers
• Potassium = overall plant health

So if you see 10-10-10, it’s like an all-around multivitamin for your plants. More phosphorus? Great for flowers. More nitrogen? Hello, leafy greens. Give your plants what they need!
