HOME Dog Training

HOME Dog Training Want a dog that listens the first time? It begins with Clarity. Habits. Obedience. Manners. Engagement. These four pillars guide everything we do.

We show your dog what’s expected before any command, making training easier, faster, and far more reliable. We don’t just teach commands—we teach your dog how to feel secure, make better choices, and live calmly with you every day. It’s training designed for real life, not just a training session.

Obedience isn't control. It's teamwork. Most behavior problems are communication problems. The behavior you live with is the behavior you practice.

The orange bandana means dog reactive. And yet — every dog in this photo is calm, by the water, surrounded by other dogs.

That's not luck. That's spring training.
A football team doesn't learn the play on game day. They run it a hundred times before the pressure hits, so when the game is on the line, they don't think — they just execute.

Group class is the same thing for you and your dog. We put you in the busy, distracting, real-world environment on purpose, because that's exactly where you need your dog to listen.

Your dog isn't a mess — they're ill prepared. We fix that together.

🐾 Your dog trusts you with every step.

They don't know the asphalt is 125°.

They don't know their paws can blister in under a minute.

They don't know the difference between a safe walk and a painful one.

They just know you're leading.

Today, before you grab the leash, put the back of your hand on the pavement for 10 seconds.

If it's uncomfortable for you...

Imagine standing on it barefoot.

Your dog would.

❤️ Protect the paws that follow you everywhere.

Today was a Tough day!! Lincoln was my Malinois. The most special dog I have ever had, and I've had a lot of dogs. I have never been more closely bonded to a dog than I was to him, and he was bonded to me right back.
He loved humans. He loved working. He loved training, walking, playing — and tug was his drug of choice. He lived for it. He lived for me and I Loved that about him! He didn't consider it snuggling unless you were uncomfortable from his weight.
He was the kind of dog you don't get twice in a lifetime, and I knew that the whole time I had him. I'm grateful for every minute, and I would trade almost anything for one more.
Run hard, buddy. Find a tug!
I'll miss you forever.

If your dog doesn't understand leash pressure, you will Always struggle on the leash.

I'll say it plainer. Most owners think the leash is a rope to hold the dog in place. The dog thinks the leash is a rope to lean into, it’s a Reflexive Response. That's the entire problem. Two different interpretations of the same six feet of nylon.

The leash is communication. It is the third language you have with your dog — body, voice, and leash — and most dogs go their whole life never being taught what the third one means. They pull. You pull back. They lean harder. You hold tighter. And now you've got a dog that only walks decently when there's pressure on the leash, and the second you let off, they're gone. That's not a trained dog. That’s constant physical guidance replacing true understanding.

Here's the rule. Your dog feels pressure, they give to the pressure. They soften, they stop pulling, they check in with you — what would you like me to do? That's the answer we're after. Once a dog truly understands that, you can walk them on an ankle bracelet. The tool stops mattering. The understanding is the whole thing.

This video is me teaching Dugg exactly that. From the very beginning, Day Two. No magic, no shortcut — just the foundation every walking problem traces back to.

If you've been white-knuckling every walk, this is the rung of the ladder you've been skipping.

Think of it like a slot machine — if pulling the lever paid out even once, you'd keep pulling. Your dog is no different. Every time jumping up got attention (even a "No!"), barking got a response, or pulling got them closer to the sniff they wanted… the behavior got reinforced. You've been training all along — you just didn't know it. The great news? That means you have MORE power than you think. Drop a 🐾 if this just made something click !

This dog used to pull — HARD.
Not because they’re stubborn. Not because they’re trying to be “dominant.”
Because pulling got them what they wanted.
Forward.
That’s the part most people miss. Every step your dog pulls and still gets to move… they’re learning that tension on the leash works.
So what you’re seeing here isn’t a shortcut or a trick.
It’s just a couple sessions of clear, consistent reps.
Same dog. Same environment.
Just different communication.
Less fighting the leash.
More understanding how to move with it.
It’s not flashy. It’s not exciting.
But this is what actually changes things.

A lot of what people call “bad manners” in dogs…
is actually an impulse control problem.

Jumping on people.
Pulling on the leash.
Not listening when it matters.

It’s easy to label those as behavior issues.

But in reality, most dogs simply haven’t learned how to:
pause…
process…
and then respond.

They’re reacting in the moment instead of making a decision.

Impulse control is what allows a dog to go from:
• reacting → to thinking
• chaotic → to calm
• distracted → to focused

And without it, manners will always be inconsistent.

At HOME Dog Training, this is why we don’t just focus on obedience commands.

We focus on building:
• Habits (daily patterns)
• Obedience (clear communication)
• Manners (real-world behavior)
• Engagement (connection with you)

Because manners aren’t something you force…

They’re something that show up naturally
when the foundation is built correctly.

Train the pause.
The behavior will follow. 🐕

Even professional football teams practice… every single week.

And they already know the plays.

So why do they keep practicing?

Because when the pressure is on, they don’t want to stop and think…
they want to **execute automatically.**

Dog training works the exact same way.

Teaching your dog something once isn’t enough.
Real life doesn’t happen in a quiet living room.

It happens:
• on walks
• at the park
• around people and other dogs
• in unpredictable moments

That’s why we put such a strong emphasis on **practice in real environments.**

It’s also why we include **group classes** in our training programs.

Because this is where dogs and owners learn how to:
✔ apply what they’ve learned
✔ work through distractions
✔ build consistency together

Training isn’t about doing it once.
It’s about being able to do it **when it matters most.**

**Teach the game.
Then practice until it’s second nature.** 🐕
