It is critical that pups stay with the breeder and littermates until 8 weeks old, but I can see why some breeders want to send them home at 6 wks.

They are loud.
They eat a lot.
They p**p a lot.
They destroy things.

But what they learn from 6 wks (when they turn into a pack on monsters) and 8 weeks is: bite inhibition and respecting boundaries, canine communication and social skills, emotional regulation and continued confidence building.

Today is such a hard day as it’s the one year anniversary of when our four year old, very pregnant, dog Georgia died after a tragic accident here at IGR.

It’s a VERY good thing I’ve got a super busy day! It started earlier than normal because the puppies do not realize there was a time change!!!! They were up at 3:45 hollaring for breakfast and to go outside. Then later this morning I’ve got a little over four hours of driving to take two dogs to the repro clinic for health clearances and a repro exam.

Prayer requests for me today:
Pray that God brings me comfort, and distraction, to get through today.

Pray that Maya holds off on her heat cycle for at least another week. If she starts in the next couple days, my husband will likely have to handle to breeding while I’m out of town. 🤪

Time to place my monthly dog food order. Come along with me to see my process of calculating how much I need to order.

Dog food is expensive and fat dogs are unacceptable. I keep very close tabs on my dogs’s body condition and adjust their meal portion weekly as needed.

Right now Ellie is on a diet and she is NOT happy with me. She is not pregnant and I need to get about 3-4 pounds off her before she is spayed. I’ve decreased her meal size about 10% for the past week or so and she’s looking better. Not quite there yet, but better.

Can you tell them apart? Same dog is on the left and right for all the video clips. Which is which? Essie and Maya.

They are not often side-by-side like this because Maya’s best friend is Roman and Essie’s best friend is Hope.

Couldn’t believe my luck when I caught them sleeping next to each other in the same position. The other clips were posed, but the sleeping just happened by chance.
