Winnebago County Animal Services focuses on rabies control, pet population control, animal bite reports, pet adoption and fostering, lost and found animals, and state and local animal ordinance enforcement. Rabies control is accomplished through pet registration and education and enforcement of rabies vaccination. To help further control the pet population, WCAS offers a year-round spay and neuter

assistance program for qualified low-income individuals. We also focus on adoption services to help our furry friends find happy, healthy homes! Please, visit our shelter and find your new best friend! Terms of Service:

We’re shining the spotlight on our dogs with something special: each day, one amazing pup will be featured as our Paw-some Pick of the Day — and for that day only, their adoption fee is waived!

👉Friday, November 14th's Paw-some Pick is Marmalade A0059650047!

Marmalade is a 2-year-old, 83-pound beauty who came to us as a stray and was never reclaimed by an owner. While her past is unknown, we’ve gotten to know her well during her time here—and she’s shown us just how social and friendly she can be.
Marmalade has completed a couple of dog introductions at the shelter, both with positive results. In her first intro, the other dog wasn’t particularly interested, but the two calmly shared the yard and walked around together. In her second intro, both dogs initiated friendly play several times, with no signs of aggression from either side.
Marmalade is ready for a new home where she can bring her playful, good-natured personality to a family of her own. If you’re looking for a social, fun-loving companion, she may be the perfect match.🐶✨

❤Remember Stella???❤

Stella first came to us as stray in September of 2020 and was never reclaimed by an owner, but after just a few weeks in our care, she was adopted. Almost 5 years later, in early August of this year, Stella found herself back at WCAS, again as a stray. Stella's owner came to WCAS; however, rather than reclaim Stella, she was surrendered to us.

For nearly 3 months, Stella eagerly awaited adoption - it wasn't until she was serving as our front office's Pawffice Assistant last week that she was adopted!

Stella's adopters passed along these adorable photos to let us know that Stella is doing so well in her new home!

Our cat room is bursting at the seams — this is the highest number of cats we’ve had all year! Over 70 new cats came in just this past week, and we’re officially AT CAPACITY.

🍁🍂🧡 Fall for a Feline at WCAS! 🧡🍂🍁

$10 adult cats | $50 kittens

Over 70 cats have entered our care in just the past week, and we are now completely out of cages — this is the highest number of cats we’ve seen all year! With 119 cats currently in the building, our shelter is at full capacity, and we’re calling on our community to help us make space by adopting or spreading the word.

This adoption event features cats and kittens already altered and ready for same-day adoptions! We have about 20 adorable, adopt-ready felines available at these reduced fees.

✨ When: TOMORRROW - Friday, Nov. 14 – Saturday, Nov. 16
✨ Where: Winnebago County Animal Services

It’s the season for all your fall favorites — pumpkin spice lattes, cozy sweaters, fall flowers… and a forever feline friend! 🍂

All adoptions include a wellness exam, spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations (including a one-year rabies shot), flea/tick prevention, and more.

👉Thursday, November 13th's Paw-some Pick is Cassie A0059448324!

Cassie is a 3-year-old, 59lb sweetheart who first came to us as a stray in late September and was never reclaimed by an owner. She was quickly adopted, but unfortunately returned less than a week later after her adopter shared that they didn’t have enough time to help her settle into her new home.

Since coming back to WCAS, Cassie has participated in a couple dog introductions with other female dogs — and she did great! Staff noted that she showed genuine interest in both dogs, even sharing friendly kisses through the fence before they were placed together and happily initiating interactions once they met.

Cassie’s looking for a family who can give her the time, patience, and love she deserves as she blossoms into her best self. Come meet this affectionate girl and see if she’s the perfect fit for your home! 🐶✨

❤Remember Penelope???❤

Penelope first came to WCAS in June 2024 as a stray. After spending a week in our care, her owner reclaimed her. However, less than two months later, Penelope found herself back at WCAS—again as a stray—but this time, her owner never came to reclaim her.

Despite it all, Penelope remained patient and hopeful, even earning a spot in our Lonely Hearts Club due to her lengthy stay. Then, just one day shy of reaching the three-month mark with us, Penelope’s wait came to a happy end—she was adopted by what is clearly her forever family!

🐾Hello! my name is Chelsea, and my husband and I adopted Penelope from you guys, a year ago tomorrow so I wanted to share some updated photos with you guys of her! She’s such a sweet girl and fits in perfect with our family. She’s going to be a big sister soon as we are expecting a baby at the end of February. 👉If you believe one of these dogs is yours, please call us at 815-319-4100 and one of our call takers can speak with you about next steps OR stop by our facility.

👉We are open today (Wednesday 11/12) from 11am until 5pm.

👉Some of these dogs are available for preselect adoption, which means that although the dog is still on their stray hold period and awaiting reclaim by their owner, an interested adopter is able to complete an adoption application and pay the fee to pre-select the animal for adoption. If the dog is not reclaimed, the adoption is finalized and the dog can go home as soon as they're spayed/neutered.

Beaumont is a 2-year-old, 65-pound pup who came to us as a stray and was never reclaimed, so his history before arriving at our shelter is unknown. What we can share is what we’ve learned from his time here—and it’s all good news.
Beaumont recently met another dog during a shelter dog intro, and he handled it beautifully. He approached with a gentle, friendly hello and maintained loose, relaxed body language and a wagging tail throughout the entire interaction.
This sweet boy is ready for a new start and a family who will give him the love and stability he deserves. If you're looking for a young, social, and good-natured companion, Beaumont might be your perfect match.🐶✨

👉Monday, November 10th's Paw-some Pick is Lola A0059540749 !

Lola is a 6-year-old, 60-pound sweetheart who originally came to us as a stray in early October. When her owners arrived at our facility, they chose not to reclaim her and instead surrendered her, citing inadequate housing and space. Now, Lola is looking for a new family who can give her the stability and love she deserves.
During her time here, our team has gotten to know her well. Lola has a calm kennel presence and walks right up to the door when it’s her turn to be leashed. She has excellent leash manners—no pulling—and enjoys a relaxed stroll outside.
In her dog introduction, Lola was gentle and respectful. She approached the other dog calmly, offered a full-body sniff, and then explored the yard alongside him with ease.
If you’re looking for a well-mannered, easygoing companion, Lola may be the perfect match. She’s ready for a fresh start and a home that will cherish her.🐶✨
