🎃 Happy Halloween! Halloween night can bring extra activity, noise, and unexpected distractions around the farm. Before the trick-or-treating begins, take a few minutes to check that gates, fencing, and enclosures are secure and escape-proof.

If fireworks or other loud noises are common in your area, make sure your animals have a safe, secure space to retreat to if they become startled.

A little preparation can go a long way toward keeping your animals safe and sound all night! 🧡

“Why can't you just sell me the medication? I've been using it for years!”

It's a fair question, and one we hear more often as medications that used to be available over the counter now require a prescription.

First, let's clear something up. This isn't a rule your veterinarian just randomly decided to make!

The FDA has moved medically important antibiotics, including many commonly used livestock medications, to prescription-only status. These changes are intended to encourage responsible antibiotic use and help combat antibiotic resistance.

These aren't suggestions, they're regulations. We understand that not everyone handles these requirements the same way, but at The Stock Doc, we take our responsibility to our patients, our clients, and our veterinary licenses seriously. Our veterinarians have a professional and legal obligation to follow these rules.

So, what does that mean for you and your herd?

It means we need an established Veterinarian-Client-Patient Relationship (VCPR) before we can prescribe medications.

Think about your own doctor. You can't expect them to keep prescribing medications indefinitely without checking in, evaluating your health, and making sure the treatment is still appropriate.

Veterinary medicine isn't much different.

But here's the good news for livestock producers!

We don't necessarily need to examine every single cow or calf every time there's a problem.

We DO need to know you, know your herd, and understand your operation.

That means knowing how you manage your cattle, what health challenges you've experienced, what treatments you're comfortable and capable of administering yourself, and when it's time for us to come help.

A valid VCPR allows our veterinarians to make informed decisions, develop treatment plans, and prescribe medications when appropriate without making a farm call for every individual sick animal.

And believe me, as a cattle producer myself, I understand how important that is!

The goal isn't to make getting medications more difficult. It's to make sure we're using the right medications, for the right reasons, while keeping your herd healthy.

Fall cow work is a perfect opportunity to establish or maintain that relationship. While we're preg checking, vaccinating, or discussing herd health, we can also help you prepare for the problems that inevitably show up during calving season.

Because we all know cows don't schedule their emergencies during regular business hours!

Know your vet. Let your vet know your herd. Make a plan before you need one.

🐾 Making Spay & Neuter Services More Accessible! 🐾

At The Stock Doc, we believe every pet deserves access to quality veterinary care.

We're updating our Spay & Neuter Assistance Program to make affordable services available to all qualifying low-income families throughout our community.

Here's what you need to know:

Income Eligibility: To qualify, clients must have an annual income of less than $30,000. Proof of income, such as a recent pay stub or tax return, must be provided once per calendar year.

Reduced-Cost Surgeries: Qualifying clients will receive discounted spay and neuter services.

Surgery Deposit: A $25 deposit is required to reserve a surgery appointment. This deposit will be applied toward the cost of your pet's surgery.

Cancellation Policy: Deposits are nonrefundable if you miss your appointment or cancel with less than 24 hours' notice.

Our goal remains the same: helping families access affordable veterinary care while reducing unwanted pet populations in our community.

When Your Animal Is Sick, Please Don't Wait to Call.

We understand that unexpected veterinary expenses can be stressful, and nobody wants to pay an emergency fee if they can avoid it. But sometimes, waiting until Monday can cost much more than you hoped to save.

Lately, we've received an increasing number of Monday morning calls about animals that have been sick all weekend. Unfortunately, waiting until Monday doesn't guarantee a regular appointment. Our schedule is often booked days in advance, and sick animals needing immediate attention may still need to be seen as emergencies, even during regular business hours.

More importantly, waiting can turn a treatable condition into a life-threatening emergency. What may have been a simple treatment on Saturday could become a much more expensive and serious situation by Monday.

The Stock Doc has a veterinarian available for emergency calls 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. If you're concerned about your animal, please call. We'd much rather help you make an informed decision early than see your animal suffer because care was delayed.

Your animal's health can't always wait until Monday.

**Happy National Veterinary Technician Week!**

As we wrap up Vet Tech Week, we want to shine the spotlight on a group of people who don't always get the recognition they deserve — **our amazing kennel staff!**

Meet the rest of the crew: Lilly, Cheyenne, Mona, Paisly, and Casey!

If you think working in the kennel is just feeding animals and cleaning cages, think again!

Our kennel staff wear more hats than most people realize. They're veterinary assistants, patient advocates, cleaning crews, extra sets of hands, and sometimes downright lifesavers!

They're the ones making sure our hospitalized patients are comfortable, have clean bedding, get their medications and meals, and receive a little extra TLC when they're away from home. They're also the ones jumping in to help our doctors and technicians, tackling the never-ending mountain of laundry, and cleaning up messes that nobody wants to claim.

And when the clinic gets crazy (which, let's face it, is pretty much every day), they're right there helping keep everything moving.

Lilly, Cheyenne, Mona, MJ, Paisly, and Casey — thank you for everything you do!** Your hard work, compassion, and willingness to jump in wherever you're needed make The Stock Doc a better place for our patients, our clients, and the entire team.

We're continuing our week of celebrating the amazing people behind The Stock Doc, and today we're shining the spotlight on MJ! 🎉

As our Lead Kennel Staff and Veterinary Technician Assistant, MJ is one of those people who helps keep the entire clinic moving!

Veterinary medicine takes a team, and there's a whole lot happening behind the scenes that most people never see. From keeping our patients comfortable and cared for to helping our technicians and doctors wherever she's needed, MJ plays an important role in making sure the day runs smoothly (or at least as smoothly as a day at The Stock Doc can run!). 🐶🐱🐴

MJ is always looking out for her teammates and has everyone's backs. She's the kind of person who sees what needs to be done and jumps in to help, and that makes a big difference in a busy clinic.

🐾 Happy National Veterinary Technician Week! 🩺❤️

Our Vet Tech Week celebrations continue this afternoon with a special shoutout to Alyssa! 🎉

Alyssa joined The Stock Doc family about four months ago as a veterinary assistant, but she's already taking some exciting steps forward in her career!

She recently passed the Veterinary Technician National Examination (VTNE) and is working her way toward becoming a veterinary technician! 🎓🐾

Veterinary medicine is a career that requires a lot of learning, both in the classroom and through hands-on experience. From assisting with patient care to learning the ins and outs of a busy mixed animal practice, there's always something new to tackle.

We're excited to watch Alyssa continue to grow her skills, gain experience, and take on new challenges as she advances in her career.
