The equine world has gotten a bit scary recently from the EHV-1 Virus outbreak. This virus is nothing new and has been around for a while, but it is always good to take precautions for any equine disease your horses may come in contact with travelling down the road.

⚠️ What Is EHV-1?
EHV-1 spreads through:
󠁯•󠁏 Direct horse-to-horse contact
󠁯•󠁏 Contaminated equipment, clothing, tack, and hands
󠁯•󠁏 Aerosol droplets from coughing or sneezing

🛡️ Prevention Tips
1. Limit Exposure
󠁯•󠁏 Avoid unnecessary travel during outbreaks.
•󠁏 Do not share water buckets, tack, grooming tools, or feed tubs.
󠁯•󠁏 Keep new or returning horses isolated for 14–21 days.

2. Maintain Strong Biosecurity
󠁯•󠁏 Wash hands between handling horses.
󠁯•󠁏 Disinfect stalls, trailers, halters, and equipment regularly.
󠁯•󠁏 Require visitors to sanitize boots and hands.

3. Monitor Your Horse Daily
󠁯•󠁏 Check temperature twice daily during high-risk periods.
󠁯•󠁏 Isolate any horse showing: fever, nasal discharge, cough, hind-end weakness, or loss of balance.

4. Keep Vaccinations Up-to-Date
󠁯•󠁏 Vaccinate according to your veterinarian’s EHV schedule.

Vaccines help reduce respiratory spread but may not prevent the neurologic form.

🚩 Signs of EHV-1 Infection
󠁯•󠁏 Fever (often the first sign)
󠁯•󠁏 Coughing or nasal discharge
󠁯•󠁏 Loss of appetite
󠁯•󠁏 Hind-end weakness or difficulty standing
󠁯•󠁏 Sudden abortion in pregnant mares
If any signs appear, contact your veterinarian immediately.

🧹 After Travel or Events
󠁯•󠁏 Disinfect your trailer.
󠁯•󠁏 Change clothes and wash hands before returning to your barn.
󠁯•󠁏 Keep event horses separated from home horses for 7–10 days.

📞 Stay Informed
󠁯•󠁏 Follow state veterinary updates.
󠁯•󠁏 Communicate with your boarding barn about any symptoms or exposures.

A healthy barn is a safe barn—protect your horses and stay vigilant!

✨ Training Tip Tuesday ✨

Common Riding Mistakes & How to Fix Them

Here are 3 things I see riders struggle with all the time — and how you can correct them on your very next ride:

1. Looking Down
Mistake: Eyes drop to the horse’s neck → balance and timing disappear.
Fix: Pick a point ahead of you. Your horse follows your focus!

2. Gripping With Your Knees
Mistake: Tight knees make you bounce and block your seat.
Fix: Relax your thighs, keep weight in your heels, and let your hips move with your horse.

3. Overusing the Reins
Mistake: Pulling to slow or “steer” instead of using your whole body.
Fix: Ride from your seat and legs first. Reins should refine, not control.

Small corrections = BIG improvements in the saddle. 💛
Happy Tuesday!

With hundreds of PRCA rodeos happening each year, you have to know how to plan routes and pick and choose which ones you want to go to or ones you may excel in more than others. For my 2025 season I picked a couple rodeos that were on my bucket list but for the most part I went to rodeos that I went to in 2024 and loved their hospitality and atmosphere. My top 4 picks for this past season are the Omak Stampede, Moses Lake Roundup, Pendleton Round-up and Basin City Freedom Rodeo.

For the 2026 season I decided to set higher goals and go more places for the experience. Most of the names you see listed are some of the biggest rodeos in the Northwest and I am so excited to have the opportunity to be there and compete. Listed below is my full 2026 season bucket list.

What is something on your bucket list?

I often get asked why I rodeo, why do I participate in a sport where it's hard to make an income off of it alone. The answer? It's on the path of a goal I have been trying to reach for years, the road to the bright lights in Vegas, the road to some of the biggest rodeos in the country.

During my time on the pro circuit I have learned a lot and I have been on some of the biggest stages in the northwest. I may have just missed money at most rodeos this past year, but I learned that 2 mares I trained from the ground up can keep up with the best in the world and can handle anything I throw at them. I travelled most likely over 1000 miles this year, spent a lot of money on entry fees and fuel, but you miss 100% of the shots that you don't take.

My "If your dreams don't scare you, they aren't big enough" moment was at the 2025 Pendleton Round-Up. The Pendleton Round-Up has been a bucket list rodeo for me for a long time and I decided this year was the year to go. I took a horse that had never been to a rodeo ever, had never seen all the sights of a rodeo this big, and had never been on a mile long pattern. But it was a dream of mine and it was nerve-wracking. We didn't place what I wanted, but I learned that if you work hard enough and have enough trust in the horsepower underneath you, any goal or dream of mine is achievable.

Updated About me and FAQs

Hi! My name is Ali Youngblood (DeVon), welcome to my equine training page. I have been in the equine community and riding horses for 15 years, and I have trained horses for 5+ years. I first started my training path when I bought a yearling Quarter Horse mare, and now I have 4 projects I am currently working on. I have experience with young un-started horses, off the track thoroughbreds, and spooky horses. In addition to training young horses, I also am a professional barrel racer and compete on the PRCA circuit as well as attend local barrel races. Some of my barrel racing and gaming accomplishments include the following:
- Grand Coulee Jr Rodeo Senior Girls Pole Bending Champion
- Davenport Jr Rodeo Senior Girls Pole Bending Champion
- 3x NWBHA Finals Qualifier
- 2x Washington High School Rodeo State Finals Qualifier
- Multiple time Open and Youth Barrel Racing Money Earner
- Competed at 2025 Pendleton Round-up
- Competed at 2024 Omak Stampede & Ellensburg Rodeo
- Competed at multiple PRCA rodeos in 2024 & 2025
I have accomplished all of these things on horses that I trained myself.

In addition to being a trainer and self made barrel racer, I have a background in Western Pleasure, having trained with an AQHA judge and multiple time AQHA World Champion. During that time I also competed on a youth western pleasure team for 6 years. I achieved the honor of being invited to and attending a national youth invitational qualifier for western pleasure in Ohio, placing 2nd and 4th place in my classes.

Furthermore, have some experience in the rodeo queening world. In 2019 I was the Tonasket Rodeo Princess and in 2022 I was Miss Rodeo Tonasket. Along with holding these titles I also competed for Miss Omak Stampede and Miss Teen Rodeo Washington and gained a lot of knowledge and insight into the rodeo queen pageant world. I have also been the Rodeo Champions of America Washington royalty advisor since 2024.

You may have noticed this page has been pretty inactive, and you may be wondering: what have we been up to?

2025 was a busy year, we had some lessons and client horses throughout the year, with rodeo season and life changes we slowed down a lot on booking new clients.
I am excited to announce that we will be relocating to North Omak/Riverside, WA. This means I will not have access to an indoor arena this year and I will only have an outdoor arena for winter lessons.

This being said, I am opening my books for client horses for the Spring/Summer and I will be announcing when my books open for Spring lessons next year.

I look forward to posting some more updates with my brand as we move forward!

We recently got in a few horses for training and this one I have been super excited to work with! I am so excited to see his progress and be able to work with a horse with a reining background

03/06/2025

We just finished up with our first client horse of the 2025 season.

Meet Luna!
Luna spent a month in our program and her owner came to us wanting some more miles on her and to get her loping as she was a little bit green after having a foal. She went from pulling the reins out of my hands, having her head tucked super tight and tossing her head around to having a nice stop, having her head and neck nicely collected, being able to neck rein and be rode on a loose rein.

The first video is from one of my first rides on her and the second video is from my final ride on her.

I am so happy with her progress and how she turned out after a month and I cannot wait to see what she does next.
I have 2 slots available for April if you are interested in getting your horse booked in for groundwork, tune-ups, barrel racing work, or c**t starting. Message me to get started!

02/15/2025

From queen horse to barrel horse, we headed down to Yakima for the Sundown Showdown and Sunny got the opportunity to be an arena run horse for Miss Omak Stampede. We got an hour break then went back for our run during the performance. We ended with a 14.13 with a couple mistakes given we had never been in a small setup before. But we are currently sitting 17th!

My books are still open for lessons and horses in for training, message me if you are interested in getting booked!

!! NOW OPENING BOOKS FOR OUR FALL RIDING LESSON PROGRAM !!
Looking to get into barrel racing, pole bending or riding in general?
Well here is your perfect opportunity! You have the option to use your own horse or borrow one of my lesson horses, this means you do not have to own a horse to do lessons! Lessons will be held at my arena in Oroville, WA. I do also teach all ages and experiences.
I have been riding for 13 years and competitively barrel racing for 5 years. Along with riding and barrel racing experience, I also have a background in western pleasure. For 6 years I trained with a AQHA judge and AQHA and NSBA multiple time world champion and competed on a youth western pleasure team and earned a spot at the YEDA National Invitational Qualifier in Ohio. Along with accomplishments in western pleasure, I have competed in local barrel races and higher caliber races such as the NWBHA Finals in Moses Lake. I also competed in Washington State High School Rodeo for 2 years and ended my senior year in the top 35 in the state (2023). I am also a multiple time open and youth barrel race winner and Professional Barrel Racer in the PRCA/WPRA. Along with having some experience in the rodeo arena and the show arena, I was also the 2019 Tonasket Rodeo Princess, 2022 Miss Rodeo Tonasket, and previously ran for Miss Teen Rodeo Washington and Miss Omak Stampede.
