SpayMart's mission is to end animal homelessness through proactive, targeted spay/neuter initiatives and robust adoption programs.

SpayMart is a registered 501(c)3 public charity that runs a lifesaving animal welfare organization. Since 1998, they have worked diligently to enhance the lives of animals in the Greater New Orleans area and southeast Louisiana through programs directed at education, adoption, foster, rescue, and affordable spay/neuter. SpayMart’s goals are to:

REDUCE pet overpopulation in the community
PREVENT cruelty to all animals
PROMOTE respect and compassion for all animals
PROVIDE shelter and care for homeless and unwanted animals
FIND loving, forever homes for the animals in our care.

It was standing room only even in the evening as attendees at the United Spay Alliance leadership retreat gathered in Massachusetts. Our founder, Lynn Chiche, is Louisiana State Leader for the USA, and attended. Can you spot her standing toward the back?

The hottest topics were statewide initiatives to fund spay/neuter, general fundraising, and the experiences of other states with outreach, legistalation, coalition building, and working with veterinarians. It was an amazing weekend and we at SpayMart have been inspired and energized in our spay/neuter mission.

As Black Cat Awareness Month draws to a close, we need to make you aware: Iris is still waiting for a home!

This beauty is a sweet 4-year-old girl who absolutely adores people and gets along with some cats but would prefer not to share her person's attention, if she had her way. Her experience with dogs and children is unknown.

Iris is a hero cat who gave blood to another cat in need. The whole vet office said she was PERFECT!

She loves to lounge around or play in equal measure.

LOCATION: Metairie, LA

COMPENSATION: $15/hour

This is a full-time position designed to assist the Director with animal adoptions, off-site events, transport coordination, animal care and administrative duties. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Feline Health and Wellness

· Monitoring the health of all animals at the small animal holding center in Metairie (approximately 10-16 cats)

· Medicating animals and providing prescribed treatments, SID and BID

· Ensuring that all medication logs are kept up to date

· Ensuring that all animals receive monthly preventives each month; applying prevention monthly

· Ensuring that all animals remain up to date on vaccines; administering vaccines

· Ensure that all pet records are kept current, as hard copy files and in PetPoint.

· Ensure that the shared population spreadsheet of animals is kept up to date, on a daily basis

· Scheduling, coordinating transport to and from vet offices

Adoption Assistance

· Retrieve pet adoption applications on a daily basist and respond within 24 hours

· Screen applications to look for red flags

· Schedule adoption appointments

· Coordinate and assist with cats coming from the Mississippi shelter for adoption

· Take photos of available cats and write bios for website

· Participate in weekly adoption marketing and strategy meeting

· Work with Director to select animals for transport to shelters in other states

· Ensure all animal records are up to date in PetPoint

· Assist with securing transport drivers; coordinate logistics and schedule

· Assist with communication with the receiving shelter

· Assist with transport accounting and deliver to Board Treasurer

Qualifications:

· Must have reliable transportation and a valid LA driver’s license

· Must be computer literate; willing to learn and utilize shelter data management systems, adoption networking websites and social media platforms. Knowledge of PetPoint, Petfinder, Network for Good, and all Microsoft Office applications a plus.

· Position may include bending, kneeling and lifting

There is probably nothing we do that prevents as much homelessness and suffering as spay/neuter. We know that you support us in that, but it's still hard to raise money for spay/neuter.

Clay was supposed to go back outside. Instead, he's getting a whole new life! ❤️

When this adorable little kitten came to SpayMart a month ago for Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), we saw something special in him. Rather than return him to outdoor life, we decided to give him a chance to discover what living in a home could be like.

And boy, has he embraced the opportunity!

Now about 4–5 months old, Clay has spent the past month with a foster mom, learning the joys of indoor living. He's adjusted beautifully, and he's ready for the next chapter: a family of his own!

And here's a particularly wonderful thing about Clay: He LOVES dogs! 🐶❤️🐱

Not only does he get along beautifully with other cats, but he's also perfectly happy hanging out with his canine friends. Just look at the photos! If you have a dog who's been hoping for a feline sidekick, Clay might be your guy!

Two kittens. Twice the fun. One beautiful friendship you get to be part of.

Meet Luke and Linus, two ridiculously adorable brothers who are graduating from foster care and ready for their next big adventure: finding a home together!

❤️ Luke is the affectionate little mischief-maker. He loves climbing, head scratches, and getting into just enough trouble to keep things interesting. He's a little shy with new people, but once he feels comfortable, his sweet, loving personality shines.

💙 Linus is the bold explorer of the family! Curious, courageous, playful, and outgoing, he's never met an adventure he didn't want to investigate. He's also a wee bit stubborn, which we're sure he considers a leadership quality.

But here's what makes these two especially wonderful: They absolutely adore each other.

Their foster caregiver says that whether they're exploring the world or simply enjoying being together, Luke and Linus are a team.

And now they're looking for someone who will love them both, exactly as they are.
