Pastella was starving and suffocating, and we didn't know why. The answer shocked even us.

Pastella was a 12-week-old kitten who came in to be spayed at a pop-up clinic. The veterinarian saw she was having trouble breathing, and we rushed her to a local vet. They prescribed antibiotics, and we took her to our shelter in Mississippi to recover.

But she didn't recover. In fact, she got worse. So we went to our veterinarian in New Orleans and she discovered that Pastella had not one but two huge polyps in her throat, requiring surgery. We of course had the surgery performed, and now she's doing much better and looks to make a full recovery.

But we need your help to cover her extensive veterinary bills. Can you donate to our annual appeal in Pastella's honor? https://spaymart.networkforgood.com/projects/264137-year-end-appeal-2025

Please share Pastella's story! Every dollar will go to her care. 🐾

PS: Prefer to donate by mail? You can send a check with "Annual Appeal 2025/Pastella" in the memo line to:

Paris has lived 13 years without ever knowing a home of her own. We’re hoping that this is the year everything changes.

Paris was rescued from Lafreniere Park in New Orleans when she was just 4 months old, pregnant and eating from garbage cans just to survive. After being transported to our Mississippi shelter, she sadly lost her kittens… and she’s been with us ever since.

Thirteen years.
Thirteen Christmases.
Thirteen winters without a family, a lap, or a place that was hers.

Paris is a stunning creamsicle orange-and-white tabby, small in size, but absolutely overflowing with love and personality. She has IBD that is fully controlled with her special diet, and as long as that’s kept consistent, she lives a perfectly happy, comfortable life.

Paris would likely do best as an only pet (though she can coexist with cats if her diet can be strictly maintained). She has never been around dogs or small children. What she has been is endlessly patient, and still hopeful.

This gentle girl has waited long enough.
She deserves to feel what a real home is like.
We are asking for a true holiday miracle.

Can you help? Please share Paris.

When Frankie was found, he was drooling, filthy, emaciated - starving in plain sight.

A colony caretaker noticed him because he was so friendly. He walked right up to her, despite clearly being in terrible pain. She knew immediately: this was once someone’s pet.

Frankie couldn’t eat. He was wasting away. And no one knows how long he struggled on the streets before he finally found that colony, desperate enough to ask for help.

We said yes.

When Frankie arrived at the vet, the truth became devastatingly clear: He was suffering from stomatitis, a brutal disease that causes extreme, unrelenting pain in the mouth. Eating had become unbearable. Survival itself had become a daily battle.

Frankie needed extensive dental surgery and medication immediately, and we covered it. But for the first time in far too long, Frankie is no longer living in agony.

He is safe now at our Mississippi shelter. He is healing. And he is still gentle. Still trusting. Still hopeful.

Frankie survived because someone chose to be his hero.

This is what your year-end gift makes possible. This is what Be Their Hero truly means.

If Frankie’s story moves you, please consider making a year-end gift to help us continue saying yes to cats like him:

Today is the International Day of Veterinary Medicine, and we want to express our gratitude to the amazing veterinarians and technicians who provide treatment and prevention to the pets in our care. We wouldn't be here without them!

We also wouldn't be here without YOU. Veterinary costs are our single biggest expense, as we provide help to the pets of community members through our Felicity Fund as well as to the pets in our care.

The cost can be overwhelming for our organization. Can you help today? Donate to our annual appeal at https://spaymart.networkforgood.com/projects/264137-year-end-appeal-2025 and help us keeping helping cats and dog who need us!

Nina is 15 years old and she still believes in people. Even after the ones she trusted chose to leave her behind.

Nina had a home once. As she grew older and needed more care, her family decided that traveling was more important, and she was surrendered to animal control with a request for euthanasia. Instead of letting her story end that way, the shelter reached out to SpayMart and asked if we could help.

We said yes.
And Nina did too.

After medical evaluation, we learned she has a thyroid condition that’s easily managed with one small daily pill. And once that was addressed, her true personality began to shine through: gentle, affectionate, quiet, and so grateful for every soft bed, every warm touch, every moment of peace.

Nina lost three years of stability through no fault of her own. Now, in the later chapters of her life, all she asks for is a quiet home, free of dogs and small children, where she can rest, be loved, and finally feel safe again. She does fine with other catsas long as the home is calm and peaceful.

Nina is currently in our Mississippi shelter, but she can travel to the New Orleans area for the right match.

If your heart has room for a senior soul who still believes in love, Nina is waiting.

Let’s make sure the rest of Nina’s life is filled with quiet mornings, gentle hands, and the love she never stopped hoping for.

There are two little girls who are anxious to share their story with you.

Although they are not a bonded pair, they share a lot in common. Both are orange tabbies, both adore human interaction, one refuses to leave her pen (with doors left wide open) unless she sees a person approaching. Both are senior cats, one 13 and the other 15 years old, and sadly, both have lived most, if not all, their entire life at the sanctuary. The only gift they want for Christmas is a passport from the shelter to your home.

Nina and Paris are located at our shelter in Mississippi, but can come to the New Orleans area to meet the right person or family. If you are interested in making their dreams come true, or have questions, please fill out a no-obligation adoption inquiry at https://spaymart.org/adoption-application/ or email [email protected].

With Giving Tuesday behind us, we’ve been reflecting on what this season truly means for the animals in our care.

One day can change a life. But for so many cats and dogs who arrive frightened, injured, or simply out of options, healing happens in quiet moments that follow, through steady care, warmth, patience, and people who don’t stop showing up.

Tonight, there are animals sleeping safely because our community chose compassion. And the season ahead is full of lives still healing, still waiting, still hoping.

We’re grateful for you today, and in all the days ahead.

Yesterday was an amazing example of how wonderful our community is! You brought us within $250 of our $5,000 goal in one day! That’s so many cats and dogs who will be fed, vetted, and taken care of while we find their forever home. You did this with every donation, every share, and every good wish. THANK YOU ALL.

If you’d like to help us make that last way to our goal, it’s not too late to donate at https://spaymart.networkforgood.com/projects/265536-giving-tuesday-2025.
