Our facility is not open to the public. is a Non-Profit organization that works very closely with southern rescue groups to provide needed homes for dogs in the Southern United States. Through our program we also work to help them gain needed resources and funding that is strongly lacking in the south. It is our goal to not only provide loving homes for these dogs but to also help better shelters

and shelter life in the South. We work specifically with rescue groups in Louisiana and Mississippi which is where our dogs are currently located. All of our dogs are adopted on a pre-adoption basis and then transported to NJ after the adoption process is complete. Upon arrival they go into a 24-48 hour monitoring period, where we make sure that they have made it through transport safe, happy, and healthy. After that time period, these dogs go into their forever home. It is a long journey but it is well worth the trip. There is an adoption fee on our dogs. This fee is a reimbursement for all of the services that we have provided to the dog being adopted. We put all of our dogs through a very stringent vetting process, deworm them multiple times, run fecal exams, spay & neuter, vaccinate and have them checked multiple times by the vet. Before they are transported, each of our dogs must receive a health certificate clearing them for travel. This fee also helps us cover the cost of transport and any other medical attention the dog may require upon arrival. There is a $500 adoption fee. Please note that for all adoptions taking place after April 1, 2022 our adoption fee has increased $50 to be a total of $500. This is to help up cover all costs for the pups such as vetting, medicine, gas and other typical costs. With these having gone up over the last year, we need to increase the adoption fee to continue the work we do and help as many dogs as possible. This will mean our non-refundable deposit following the phone interview will be a total of $100 with the additional $400 due on adoption day. Because almost all of our dogs are pre-adopted there is no meet and greet process with our dogs. If you must meet the dog before you adopt then that is totally understandable, however we may not be the best program for you. We do have a back up program just in case a dog doesn't do well in his new home. In that case the pup goes back into foster care and will be put up for adoption again in the state of NJ. We have been talking about the future a lot, here at Southern Paws Inc. We hope that within the next year or so we will be able to branch out and work with other Southern states in need, such as Georgia and South Carolina. Our hope for the future is to continue to save lives and do the rewarding work that we do.

WE CANNOT LET THEM DOWN NOW... Not after everything they have survived.

On July 15th, Hope and Valor were left in a box at Newark Animal Shelter at just 10 weeks old — blind, terrified, emaciated, and weighing less than 8 pounds each. They were nothing but skin and bones, their tiny bodies already carrying more suffering than any puppy should ever know. When the shelter put out an urgent plea, so many of you reached out to Ashley and Shannon to help them. And we did. We didn't know how hard or expensive this journey would be. We only knew two terrified babies had been discarded like they didn't matter — and we couldn't leave them behind.

Over the past few weeks, we have watched these two transform. With endless patience and love from their foster home, they went from frightened, starving puppies who didn't understand safety to goofy, playful, brave little dogs learning to navigate a world they will never see the way we do. They follow voices, recognize scents, explore textures, memorize their surroundings, play, cause trouble, wag their tails — and most importantly, they are happy. They have fought their way from less than 8 pounds to 24–25 pounds at 16 weeks old. Their bodies are finally strong enough for the next battle.

And now, that battle is here. This Thursday, both puppies are scheduled for major surgeries. Valor's right eye was ruptured when he came into our care and must be removed. Hope suffered severe entropion, causing her eyelids to roll inward leading to devastating damage to both eyes. She will need both eyes removed. She also has a massive hernia that must be repaired before her intestines can become trapped, twisted, or rupture — a potentially fatal complication.

The estimated cost for both puppies is $6,000–$7,000. That number is terrifying. But not nearly as terrifying as knowing that their future depends on whether we can afford to get them through this.

We promised Hope and Valor that their lives would be different. That they would never again be discarded, forgotten, or forced to fight alone. And they have kept their side of that promise. They fought. They gained weight. They learned to trust. They learned that hands can be gentle, voices can mean safety, and life can actually be good.

Now they need us to keep ours. If every person who follows Southern Paws gave just $1, we could help cover these surgeries. If you can't donate, please share. Share their story until it reaches someone who can.

These two babies were once starving, terrified, blind puppies sitting in a box, treated as though their lives didn't matter. But their lives matter. They matter to us. They matter to everyone who has watched them fight their way back. And they matter to the families who will someday love them for the rest of their lives.

Please help us get Hope and Valor through Thursday. They have fought so hard to get here. Let's not make them fight this part alone. ❤️🐾

🌈🐾 Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day Today, we pause for the ones who may no longer be beside us, but will forever be a part of us. 🐾🌈

The dogs who left paw prints on our hearts. The ones who made us laugh, comforted us when we cried, greeted us at the door, slept beside us, and somehow made our lives feel a little more complete just by being in them.
Losing them doesn’t mean we stop loving them. We carry them with us—in the memories, the silly stories, the favorite photos, the little things they taught us, and in the pieces of our hearts they took with them. 🌈

Today, we want to remember ALL of the beloved fur babies big, small, scales and all, waiting for us across the Rainbow Bridge. 🐾

Share a photo of your babies who have crossed the bridge in the comments or send them to us. Tell us their name, how long you had them, or share a favorite memory. Let’s fill this space with the faces and stories of the ones who will never be forgotten.

They may no longer be in our arms, but they will always be in our hearts.
Until we meet again. 🌈🐾❤️

🚨WE ARE DESPERATE FOR FOSTERS. 🚨
The system is failing these dogs, and honestly, we cannot keep up, and our team is feeling defeated. Every day there are more dogs who need out, more dogs sitting in shelters, and more lives we want to save—but we simply cannot save more dogs without more foster homes. We want to save these little guys. The tiny ones. A mama who watched all of her pups leave without her. The overlooked ones. These exact faces pictured here.

Fostering doesn’t have to be forever. If you can open your home for a few days, a few weeks, or even just until a dog finds their forever family, you can make an incredible difference.

And you are NOT doing it alone.
You provide the safe space. We provide EVERYTHING else.
🐾 Food
🐾 Supplies
🐾 Toys
🐾 Crates & essentials
🐾 Training guidance
🐾 Veterinary care
🐾 And a rescue family supporting you 24/7

You don’t need to be an expert. You don’t need a perfect home. You can be a first time dog family. You just need a little space and a willingness to help. Because right now, the biggest thing standing between these dogs and safety is an empty foster spot.

If you can open your home, please reach out.
We cannot do this without you. And these are the faces who cannot wait. ❤️🐾
