Collars and ID tags are important, but they can easily break, fall off, or become unreadable. A microchip is a permanent form of identification, roughly the size of a grain of rice, safely implanted just under your pet's skin. It gives your furry family member a voice when they can't tell anyone where they live.📈 The Proof is in the Numbers:Microchipped dogs are over twice as likely to be returned to their families.Microchipped cats are 20 times more likely to be reunited with their owners. If your pet is already chipped, use this month to log into your registry database (like the AAHA Universal Pet Microchip Lookup) to ensure your phone number and address are completely up to date!📞 Is your pet unprotected? Give us a call or visit our website to schedule a quick, painless microchipping appointment this week!

🐾 IS IT TOO HOT FOR A WALK? TRY THE 7-SECOND TEST! 🐾Summer is here, and asphalt can get hot enough to severely burn your dog’s paws in seconds! When the air temperature is a comfortable 77°F, the asphalt in direct sunlight can skyrocket to a dangerous 125°F. At that temperature, skin destruction can occur in just 60 seconds. Before you head out for a stroll, take the 7-Second Test: Place the back of your hand flat against the pavement. Hold it there for 7 full seconds. Feel the heat—if it is too hot for your hand, it is too hot for their paws! How to keep paws safe on hot days: Walk early in the morning or late in the evening. Stick to shady areas and grassy paths. Invest in protective dog booties if pavement is unavoidable. Our pets rely on us to protect them. If the ground is scorching, skip the walk and play indoors instead! Please SHARE this post to protect our pups this summer! 🐶🐾❤️

🐾 A HOT CAR IS A DEATH TRAP FOR PETS 🐾
Did you know that when it is 80°F outside, the inside of a car can hit 99°F in just 10 minutes? Cracking the windows does not cool the car down. Parking in the shade does not stop the heat. Dogs cannot sweat like humans to cool themselves off, causing them to suffer from heatstroke, brain damage, or death in mere minutes. If you love your pets, leave them at home when running errands today. It is always better for them to wait safely on the couch than to risk their lives in a parking lot. If you see a distressed animal left alone in a vehicle, please take immediate action: Note the car make, model, and license plate. Alert nearby store managers to page the owner. Call local animal control or emergency services right away. Let's keep our furry best friends safe this summer! Please SHARE this post to spread the word and save a life. 🐶🐱❤️

It might not just be "slowing down." 🐾🦴

It’s Pet Arthritis Awareness Week, and at Ringgold Animal Hospital, we want to help your pets stay mobile and comfortable as they age. Arthritis is one of the most common sources of chronic pain, but since pets are experts at hiding discomfort, the signs can be easy to miss.

Watch for these subtle changes in your pet:

Stiffness or changes in gait: Especially when first getting up in the morning or after a nap. Even a mild limp is an indication your pet is uncomfortable.

Hesitation: Reluctance to jump onto the couch, climb stairs, or get into the car.

Changes in Grooming: Cats may stop grooming hard-to-reach areas or develop matted fur.

Irritability: Snapping or pulling away when touched in certain spots.

The good news is that we have more options than ever to manage joint pain. From specialized nutrition to modern therapeutic treatments and monthly biological therapies, we can tailor a plan to your pet's specific needs.

Don’t let your pet live with discomfort. If you’ve noticed any of these changes, call us to schedule a wellness exam. Let’s work together to get that spring back in their step! 📞🐕🐈

💙🐾 A Note from Our Team 🐾💙

After 16 incredible years, we are sharing some bittersweet news — our beloved Licensed Veterinary Technician and Inventory Manager, Kittie, is moving on to an exciting new chapter!
She will be joining MWI Animal Health as a Territory Manager, where she’ll be supporting veterinary clinics and the pets they care for all across northwest Georgia. It’s a role that suits her perfectly, and we couldn’t be prouder.

She wanted to share a few words directly with all of you:
“To our wonderful clients and the dogs and cats you’ve trusted us with — thank you from the bottom of my heart. For 16 years, you’ve welcomed me into some of the most important moments of your pets’ lives, and that is something I will carry with me always. The love, the laughs, the tears, and the wagging tails — I will miss every single one of you more than words can say. While I’m moving on, I’m not going far. My new role will allow me to keep doing what I love most: making a difference for animals and the people who care for them. Thank you for 16 years of memories I will treasure forever. 🐾❤️”

Please join us in wishing her all the best in this exciting new journey. She will always be part of the Ringgold Animal Hospital family!

Is it "just nerves," or is your dog struggling with anxiety? 🐕⚡

It’s Dog Anxiety Awareness Week, and with North Georgia’s spring storm season in full swing, we’re seeing many local pups feeling the stress. Anxiety is more than just a personality trait—it’s a medical condition that can significantly impact your dog’s quality of life.

Common signs your dog might be anxious:

👅 Excessive lip licking, yawning, or panting (when not hot).

👁️ "Whale eye" (showing the whites of their eyes).

🚪 Destructive behavior or pacing when you leave.

🌩️ Shaking, hiding, or "clingy" behavior during thunderstorms.

The good news? You don’t have to just "wait it out" when the clouds roll into Ringgold. From specialized supplements and calming pheromones to prescription support, we can help find a solution that works for your pet’s specific needs.

Does your dog struggle with storms or separation? Call Ringgold Animal Hospital to discuss a comfort plan so your best friend can feel safe and secure again. 📞🐾
