The Oneida County Humane Society began advocating for humane treatment of animals and children in 1913 when it was officially recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a non-profit organization. MThe Rhinelander Animal Shelter currently provides services to all of Oneida County animals. Over the years, members of the Oneida County Hum

ane Society actively provided funds for area animal shelters and humane societies. In 2011 a small group of area animal lovers came together with the hope of expanding the Society’s activities to include education to the public and greater assistance to the Rhinelander Animal Shelter. On July 1, 2012, the Oneida County Humane Society assumed operational responsibility for the Animal Shelter, renaming it the Oneida County Humane Society Adoption Center.

❤️🐾Introducing Margo!🐾❤️

My is Miss Margo and I am a rare “Velvet Eared Vixon”. My owner died which is how I ended up homeless. Thankfully, I have a foster Mom! Don’t be misled by my gray muzzle as I have plenty of ‘go power’. I am a big girl (close to 90 #) and like many of us with new year’s plans, am on a diet and exercise routine as I slim down. I would love someone dedicated to helping me achieve this goal of healthy longevity!
I am quiet and well-mannered -- love people, car rides, playing with toys, long walks, and am eager to please. My tail wags most of the time and I am a master snuggler! I am crate and house trained, spayed, and up-to-date on my shots. While I love ALL the people, there are some dogs that I like better than others. Something we can definitely chat about with potential new forever hoomans!
My foster Mom says I am a VERY good girl, smart, and learning new things every day. I prefer older, well- mannered children and adults. I need a forever family who will treasure me for the precious girl I am. In return, I will be your Best Girl!

Margo is about 7 years old and is currently in a foster home, so give us a call to schedule a meet and greet with her! 715-362-5992

Marty and Monte are brothers and have always been together. Their birthday is March 1st, 2023. They are both big cats and love people very much. Monte is the larger of the two and has shorter fur and a long tail. Marty is slightly smaller and has longer, fluffy hair with a shorter tail. We think that they might have some Maine C**n blood, but we don't know for sure. Both of them are neutered and still have their claws. We would love to find a home for them where they can be together, as they are the best of friends. They have not been around other animals, so I am not sure how they would do with another cat or a dog. They do well with kids and have not shown aggression towards babies or toddlers either.

They are neutered. Have shots and are microchipped. Stop by during open hours to meet them. We are here today 12-4pm! See you soon!

And just like that 2025 is almost behind us. An amazing year for OCHS. We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made this year such a success.

To our donors and our supporters: your generosity, both in monetary gifts and donated supplies, helped us provide food, medical care, and comfort to the homeless pets of Oneida County. We are deeply grateful for every contribution.

To our volunteers and foster homes: your time, compassion, and dedication mean the world to our organization. From walking dogs to cleaning kennels, fostering, transporting, and everything in between, you make a difference every day at our shelter.

To our Board of Directors: thank you for your leadership, commitment, and passion for our mission. Your hard work keeps our shelter moving forward and growing stronger.

Lastly, thank you to the amazing team of skilled and dedicated staffers. The individuals that treat each animal as their own through comfort, compassion and daily cares. OCHS is truly blessed to have this incredible passionate team!

This year we celebrated:
🥰 717 Adoptions
🏡 142 Stray Pets Returned to owners

As we look ahead to the new year, we do so with gratitude, optimism, and excitement for what we can continue to accomplish together. We have an amazing community of supporters and forever homes.

Wishing everyone a safe and Happy New Year 🥳 Let’s bring on 2026!

Update: Pending adoption!

Minnie had such a great adventure looking at the Lights of the Northwoods with volunteers Sage and Suzanne. Minnie came to us as a stray and unfortunately was not claimed, but we are learning so much about her while she’s in our care. She loves belly rugs, adventures and hanging out with people. We have learned that she would do best as an only dog in the home. If interested, call 715-362-5992 to set up an appointment.
