As temperatures rise, so does the risk of heatstroke in dogs, a life-threatening condition that can affect any pup, even during seemingly mild weather.

🌡️ How does heatstroke happen?
Dogs primarily cool themselves by panting, not sweating like humans. In hot or humid conditions, this method becomes ineffective, and their body temperature can rise to dangerous levels fast.

🚗 One major risk? Being left in a parked car. Even on a 70°F day, a car’s interior can soar past 110°F within minutes, even with cracked windows or running A/C.

🐕‍🦺 Another danger? Exercising during the heat of the day. Walks or playtime in high temperatures can lead to overheating faster than you think. Aim for early morning or late evening, and always provide fresh water.

⚠️ Some dogs are more at risk, including those who are older, overweight, or have flat faces (like Pugs or Boxers), as well as those with heart or breathing conditions.

☀️ No dog is immune—please stay alert, plan ahead, and protect your furry friend this summer.

Our office will be COMPLETLY CLOSED in observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 26th.

If your pet will need a medication refill, please contact by Thursday, May 22nd to have it filled before we close on Friday the 23rd. We want to give you plenty of time in order for you to be able to plan ahead for your pets' medication and care needs.

We will have a Large Animal Doctor on call for emergencies. The office will be closed, and you will NOT be able to stop in to pick up product. You will need to make arrangements with the on call doctor.

‼️Why We Strongly Recommend the Leptospirosis Vaccine‼️

Leptospirosis is a serious and potentially life-threatening disease that affects both animals and humans—making it what’s known as a zoonotic disease. It’s caused by bacteria found in the urine of infected animals and can be spread through contaminated water, soil, or direct contact with infected pets. Even dogs that live primarily indoors are at risk, especially after heavy rain or flooding.

Vaccination is one of the most effective ways to protect your dog—and your entire household—from this dangerous illness.

Recently, this hit close to home. Our own veterinarian, Dr. Jason Kennell, likely contracted leptospirosis from a contagious patient. He was hospitalized for five days, after battling symptoms for nearly a week. This has been a sobering reminder of just how real and serious this disease can be—not only for your pets but for the people who care for them.

We can’t stress enough how important it is to vaccinate. It’s a simple step that can prevent significant suffering for both pets and people.

Finally, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our wonderful clients who have been so patient and understanding while we adjusted schedules. Being down Dr. Jason and allowing his wife, Dr. Kaci, time to be by his side meant some changes in our daily operations—and your support has meant the world to our team.
