💙 Thankful Thursday: Celebrating Tex 💙

Today we’re feeling especially thankful for the horses who find their way to Happy Trails when life takes an unexpected turn.

Tex, an 11-year-old Thoroughbred gelding, came to us after his owner passed away. His widow did everything she could to care for Tex and his buddy, Oatmeal, but eventually realized that managing two horses alongside her own disabilities was more than she could safely handle. Thanks to a thoughtful suggestion from family, she reached out to Happy Trails, and we were fortunate to be able to welcome these two sweet boys into our care.

We’re thankful that Tex has had the chance to land somewhere safe while we search for the perfect forever home for him.

And we’re thankful for all the things that make Tex, well... Tex! His fancy prance turns heads wherever he goes, he gets along well with the herd, isn’t bothered by dogs, and has a kind personality that makes him a joy to be around.

Most of all, we’re thankful that we’ve gotten to know where Tex truly shines. While trails can make him nervous and spooky, he excels in arena work and is best suited for an intermediate rider looking for a horse to develop a partnership in that setting. Finding the right match isn’t just about finding a home—it’s about finding the right home.

As we continue celebrating National Adopt a Horse Month, we’re hopeful that Tex’s perfect person is out there waiting to meet him. Could it be you? 🐴❤️

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. 🇺🇸

At Happy Trails Horse Rescue, we are especially grateful for the healing connection between horses and humans — a bond that has helped so many veterans, service members, and families find peace, purpose, and comfort through difficult times.

As we spend time with loved ones this Memorial Day, we also reflect on the sacrifices that made those moments possible. We remember the fallen, honor their courage, and hold gratitude in our hearts for those who served.

From all of us at Happy Trails, we wish you a safe and meaningful Memorial Day. ❤️🤍

💛 Thankful Thursday 💛

Today we’re feeling especially thankful for Bailey and for the chance to watch her truly come back to life and hopefully find her forever home soon ✨

This sweet girl is filling out beautifully and is almost ready to try a saddle pad for the first time! As she settles in, we’re seeing more and more of her personality shine through — she is incredibly loving. The other day she walked right up for horse-hugs, and it completely melted our hearts. 🥰

We are so thankful Bailey now gets to enjoy the simple things every horse deserves: grassy fields, spring sunshine, horse friends, and people who adore her. Watching her run and play in the pasture, soaking up life and feeling good again, reminds us why this work matters so much.

We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Bailey, and we’re so grateful to everyone who helps make stories like hers possible. 💛

If you want a horse hugs everyday, reach out to see if Bailey is the perfect fit for you!

🐴 Meet the Herd Monday: Kat 🐴

Today we want to feature our sweet adoptable companion, Kat. She’s arrived at the rescue in 2022 after her previous owners, who had loved them for nearly 10 years, were forced to relinquish them due to health issues. At around 23 years old, this beautiful grey Quarter Horse still has so much love left to give.

If you’ve followed Kat’s story with us, you know she has a hoof condition called navicular disease, which caused her significant pain over the years. After multiple trying multiple treatments, we opted for the neurectomy surgery which seems to have relieved most of her pain and gave her Kat a brand new lease on life.

She’s playful, social, and full of personality! Watching her interact with her herd mates and enjoy life has been nothing short of magical ✨

While Kat can no longer be ridden, companion horses like her are incredibly special and important. Horses are herd animals and thrive with friendship and connection. A companion horse can provide emotional support to another horse, help reduce anxiety and loneliness, and bring calm, steady energy to a herd. And for humans? Companion horses offer unconditional love, quiet connection, grooming sessions, groundwork opportunities, and all the joy of horse ownership without riding.

Kat especially loves being involved with our volunteers. She’s patient, gentle, and often helps with volunteer trainings as a calm and trustworthy model horse. She truly enjoys being part of the action and soaking up all the TLC she can get ❤️

If you’ve been thinking about adding a loving companion horse to your family, Kat may be your perfect match.

Self Care Sunday isn’t just for humans 💛 Check out how relaxed Tex is during this beautiful sound bath 😍

Just like people, horses can benefit from extra support for both their bodies and minds. Bodywork, reiki, massage, stretching, and even sound baths can help horses release tension, relax sore muscles, reduce stress, and feel more balanced overall.

Many rescue horses come to us carrying not only physical wear and tear, but emotional stress too. Watching a horse soften during a reiki session, relax into bodywork, or quietly enjoy calming sounds is always such a powerful reminder that healing comes in many forms. ✨

At Happy Trails, we believe caring for our horses means supporting their whole wellbeing — physically, mentally, and emotionally. Whether it’s proper nutrition, training, veterinary care, or holistic therapies, every little act of care matters.

Here’s your reminder this Sunday to take care of yourself the same way we care for our horses: slow down, breathe deep, and give your body and mind what they need. 🐴🩵

This Mother’s Day we want to recognize the incredible mares who have already spent so much of their lives caring for others. 💐

Many of the horses who come through our rescue were once broodmares — used for breeding year after year, often without the care, rest, or kindness they deserved in return. Despite everything they’ve been through, they continue to show us what resilience, gentleness, and unconditional love look like.

We still see their nurturing spirits every day: the way they watch over younger horses, comfort nervous pasture mates, and quietly seek connection with the people caring for them. Their strength is inspiring, and their softness is something truly special.

Today we celebrate these amazing mares and all they have endured. They are so much more than the roles they were once forced into — they are deserving of safety, love, and happy endings of their own. ❤️🐴

Thankful Thursday 💙

During National Adopt a Horse Month, we wanted to take a moment to reflect on something that means the world to us — the horses who have found their forever homes. Since Happy Trails was founded in 2024, we’ve had 13 horses adopted into loving families!

And thanks to your support, it’s only May and we’ve already had more horses adopted in 2026 than we did in all of 2025. Watching these horses go from uncertain futures to safe, loved, and thriving homes is exactly why we do this work.

Of course, there are still more horses waiting for their perfect match. Every donation, share, volunteer hour, and adoption application helps us continue saying “yes” to horses in need and preparing them for the next chapter of their lives.

To everyone who has adopted, donated, volunteered, shared our posts, or cheered us on along the way — thank you for helping make these happy endings possible. 🐴✨

✨ Wednesday Wishes ✨

Some horses find their forever homes quickly… and some need a little extra time, patience, and preparation before the perfect match comes along. Sapphire is one of those special horses. 💙

Sapphire has all the makings of an incredible prospect horse — she’s smart, athletic, and eager to learn. But before she’s ready for her forever family, we want to invest the time and training she deserves so she can confidently step into her next chapter.

Training takes consistency, professional support, and resources, and every ride helps Sapphire get one step closer to the future she deserves.

Would you consider becoming one of Sapphire’s monthly sponsors or making a donation toward her training journey? Your support helps cover feed, farrier care, veterinary needs, and the cost of building the foundation that will help her succeed in her forever home.

Horses like Sapphire remind us that rescue is not just about saving lives — it’s about giving them every opportunity to thrive. 💫

To donate or sponsor Sapphire, visit our website or send us a message to learn more.

Social Saturday 💛

Scout has been making some new friends lately… and we’re excited to share that he may have found his perfect match (at least for the summer)!

As a young gelding, Scout has been navigating the learning curve of herd dynamics. He’s a little too playful for the ladies and hasn’t quite figured out how to “just hang” with the boys yet — so we’ve been trying out different placements to help set him up for success.

Enter Tango, our temporary boarder… and Scout’s new best buddy 🐴✨

The two of them have been getting along beautifully — matching each other’s energy, keeping things playful but respectful, and giving Scout the kind of companionship he’s been needing. It’s been so rewarding to watch him settle in, build confidence, and just enjoy being a horse.

We love seeing these connections form, especially when they help our horses grow into their best selves 💚

Stay tuned for more Scout & Tango adventures!
