Do you add eggs to your dog's raw diet? Eggs are a super nutritious addition to the bowl (for those who feed fresh and those who don't).

We like to feed a variety of eggs, including quail, chicken and duck eggs. Quail and duck eggs are great for dogs who are allergic to chicken, and they typically contain more nutritional value than chicken eggs.

For dogs who struggle to eat adequate amounts of fresh raw liver, eggs can be used to boost several key nutrients that liver provides in the diet.

Omega-3s are an essential part of a raw diet, and the best way to supply them is fish! Up to 10% of the entire diet can be comprised of fish. Ideal fish to feed dogs are low-mercury oily fish such as:

•Smelts
•Anchovies
•Sardines
•Herring
•Mackerel
•Cod

Many dogs enjoy fish frozen, so if you're finding that your dog is apprehensive of eating a whole fish, try feeding it frozen! Fresh, wild caught fish are ideal, but you can also source canned fish - just make sure they are canned in water or olive oil with no sodium or seasonings added.

Hard to watch we know, but this is nature!

While observing our pets consume a prey animal may be challenging for some, the benefits are tremendous. We've discussed feeding whole prey before, but want to highlight the benefits of feeding fur.

•Fur provides a source of manganese, which is often lacking in a raw diet and supports bone mineral density and is key to good bone health.

•Fur is a source of fiber and cleans out the digestive tract. When the digestive system is cleaned, it better facilitates the absorption of nutrients!

•An improved digestive system strengthens the immune system.

•As fur scrubs out the digestive tract, it also helps eliminate worms and parasites from a dog's gut.

•Fur helps to bulk up stool, providing more consistent, solid bowel movements and naturally expressing the a**l glands.

•Gnawing away at furry parts helps clean the teeth and gums.

You can add fur to the diet via feeding whole prey, or adding pieces of pelt with fur on, furry feet, heads and/or ears.

Your dog can derive almost all of the nutrients it needs to thrive from consuming whole prey animals. However, most DIY raw diets or 80/10/10 blends do not contain the entire animal, but an assemblage of parts of the animal.

Modern butchering practices strip some parts away from the animal before they are processed and delivered to consumers. This includes the blood, fur/feathers/hide, and often the feet, head, tail and more. These parts contain nutrients and trace minerals that are valuable to our dogs. Including trace mineral rich foods in the diet in addition to muscle, organ and bone ensures that any dietary gaps are filled.

Turmeric is an incredible supplemental superfood that you can add to your dog's diet to provide some great benefits.

An easy way to feed it is to make a golden paste. We carry organic turmeric powder by Sunfood here in store that you can use in your recipe! We also love using raw turmeric root freshly ground as well as powders.

Add 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon of golden paste per 10lbs of your dog's body weight up to daily.

Fat pets are not cute.

Obesity is a major problem amongst pet dogs, and the consequences are devastating. We as humans are ultimately responsible for the care and well-being of our dogs, and neglecting to support them in maintaining a healthy body condition is unfair and cruel.

Certainly, there are medical reasons why some dogs may struggle to maintain a healthy weight, but we should all do our best to help our dogs feel good in their bodies and live long, healthy, active and happy lives.
