Pet Care Tip: Before walking your dog on a hot day, place the back of your hand on the pavement for 5 seconds. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for your dog’s paws.

In 2012, a puppy from a litter in Auburn, NY picked my family, and my life changed forever. She wore a little tag that read “G3”, and no matter how many other dogs were there, she kept choosing us… and I kept choosing her back. A couple days ago, we had to say goodbye to our girl, Kobi.

I was 14 when she joined our family, finally winning the years long “can we get a dog?” plea just as my older brother left for college. I remember a friend telling me back then that the novelty of having a puppy would eventually fade…but for me, that connection only grew deeper. For nearly 14 years, she was at the center of my world, and I cherished every moment of being her protector and best friend.

Kobi was a true family girl who lived for the outdoors. Whether she was riding the jet ski with her dad, swimming in Chenango Lake, or going on their daily walks, she was always in her element. She loved the simple joys like laying out in the grass, bounding through the New York snow, or bolting through her doggy door to chase squirrels, chipmunks, and deer. She also shared a deeply special bond with her mom..they were the absolute best of friends, and Kobi lived for every moment of their time spent together, from car rides to playing frisbee to morning cuddles.

Kobi was also incredibly strong and resilient. When she was diagnosed with diabetes and lost her vision at 12, she didn’t slow down for a second. She adapted with such grace, learning the layout of a new house so quickly and navigating with ease that it was like she could still see. That tail never stopped wagging…not even in her final hours.

Kobi is the reason I fell so deeply in love with dogs, and the reason I care so much about the quality of life for every pup in our care, through every stage of their life. Without her, there would be no Doggy Dude. She inspired this business and the unparalleled care we strive to provide every single day.

Rest easy, Kobi. Thank you for the 14 years of joy. You’ll always be the heart of this team. 🕊️🐾
