In September 2023, Maggie was found hiding under cars in a busy parking lot. She was painfully thin and dirty, but still wagging her tail and ready to love the people who rescued her. Since joining the Pawfect Match family, she has survived dog flu, heartworms, and skin infections, and is maintaining a healthy weight.
Despite everything she’s been through, Maggie is pure sunshine. She loves every person and animal she meets and has become the official welcoming committee for the new foster dogs who have come through her home since she arrived. Her favorite activity on warm days? Rolling and wriggling in the grass like it’s her full-time job.
But Maggie has been suffering from severe antibiotic-resistant infections in both ears for more than two years. Despite care from several veterinarians, including NC State Veterinary School, the infection hasn’t responded to treatment and she lives in constant pain-- like a migraine she can't ever shake.
Her only chance at healing is surgery to remove her ear canals and clear the infection. This will likely leave Maggie mostly deaf, but it will finally give her something she hasn’t had in years — a life without pain.
Her foster mom has already started teaching Maggie sign language, and Maggie is catching on quickly.
Surgery estimates were as high as $12,000, but a trusted local veterinarian can perform it for $5,100–$5,500.
