🐾 Meet Lavender, a sweet female Brittany Spaniel who came to us after vomiting and passing pieces of candy wrappers at home.
💉 Given her history of prior abdominal surgery and continued GI upset, diagnostics including a barium series and bloodwork raised concern for a small intestinal foreign body, especially near an area of known scar tissue. See below a photo of the barium study x-rays and how they appear to us.
🩺 Lavender underwent surgery, where an enterotomy (an abdominal incision to explore the intestines) successfully removed multiple Milky Way candy wrappers lodged at the ileocecal junction. She tolerated anesthesia well, and her intestinal incision was carefully closed to support healing.
💕 Lavender has since gone home and is doing well, eating as directed and being closely monitored by her family as she continues to recover comfortably.
🌿 Preventative Tip: Dogs are curious eaters — keeping wrappers, fabric, and small objects securely out of reach and seeking prompt care for vomiting can help prevent serious intestinal obstructions.
