Give Me Shelter Project, Inc. Animal Rescue, Education and Advocacy

Changing the world one animal at a time. Give Me Shelter Project, Inc. Many lives were saved.

is a 501(c)3 not for profit animal rescue, education and advocacy group in NYC. We believe that Each Animal Counts™ and are committed to changing the world, one animal at a time. Purpose:

Give Me Shelter Project strives to elevate the societal value of animal life through various activities including:
• Rescue and placement of unwanted animals
• Provision of necessary medical care
• Promoting tr

ap-neuter-return (TNR)
• Adoptions
• Support for and collaboration with individuals and other animal welfare organizations
• Education of the public on the importance of sterilization, basic animal care, humane treatment of animals, and the value of animals as an integral part of our society. History and Accomplishments:

Our story began in 2008 when we were part of a small group of independent rescuers who came together to rescue 88 cats from an eviction situation. Most of the cats were not friendly enough to be adopted. We searched and found placements far and wide (some cats were flown to a sanctuary in Arizona!). We undertook a similar rescue of 64 cats the following year. The scope of these rescues took an enormous toll on us physically, emotionally and financially. Many agencies advised us to turn the cats over to the local “kill” shelter. Instead, we felt compelled to consider the life of each individual cat and do all we could to protect that life. We were able to sleep at night knowing we made the right decision. Along the way, we rescued numerous other individual cats who found themselves in dire situations like Allison who was trapped in an abandoned building, and Becky who was blind and living on the street. Hobo was hit by a car and found on the side of the road with a broken arm. We now have a total of 44 cats in our care being fostered in several locations. Many would have been euthanized because the needed medical care was too expensive. Our Veterinarians saved a total of seven cats that had a deadly case of feline distemper. Many of these wonderful cats have been adopted into their forever homes. We have since rescued many more who are waiting for theirs. We have several cats with ongoing but treatable medical conditions. All donations go directly to the care of the animals to cover the cost of veterinary care, food and litter.

Meow Paw-cino (formerly Chirop) is an approximately 3-year-old sweetheart with a big personality and an even bigger heart.

He came to ACC after being found abandoned in an apartment building hallway. The shelter environment was overwhelming for him, and he was quickly placed on the at-risk list for euthanasia.

We saved him from the euthanasia list and found the purrfect foster home!! Since being rescued, he's blossomed into the sweetest, most affectionate boy and is learning every day that people can be trusted.

Paw-cino is a world-class cuddle bug who loves curling up on your lap or stretching out on your chest for a nap. Because he was neutered later in life, he sometimes shows his affection by hu***ng soft blankets or pillows. It's simply one of his quirky habits and is not associated with aggression.
When he's not snuggling, Paw-cino is all about playtime! He'll happily chase his favorite spring toy across the room or go into full hunter mode with a wand toy.

He's endlessly curious, loves following his people from room to room, and will greet you at the door with an enthusiastic chorus of meows after you've been away.

Paw-cino would thrive in a calm, patient home with someone who is around often and willing to let him settle in at his own pace. He can be a little shy when meeting new people and is still learning that hands are friends, not something to swat at. While he enjoys affection, he prefers not to be held for long periods and is happiest when he can choose when to cuddle.

Although he hasn't been tested with other cats, we think he could do well in a home with a feline companion if given a slow, proper introduction.

If you're looking for a playful, chatty, affectionate companion who just needs a little time to show his true self, Paw-cino may be your perfect match.
