🖤 In Loving Memory of Blackjack 🐾🌈

It is with heavy hearts that we share the heartbreaking news that our sweet Blackjack has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Yesterday, Blackjack suddenly lost the ability to move both of his back legs. His foster parent immediately took him to the Animal Medical Center, where veterinarians discovered that he had suffered a blood clot and was also experiencing heart failure.

Sadly, his condition was extremely serious, and we were faced with one of the most heartbreaking decisions in animal rescue. We had to say goodbye to Blackjack and allow him to pass peacefully, without further suffering.

The veterinarian at AMC determined that Blackjack was approximately 8–10 years old, much older than we had initially thought, but still relatively young for a cat. We may never know everything he experienced before coming into our care.

What we do know is that he deserved love, kindness, and a safe place to call home.

One of the hardest realities of animal rescue is that we cannot save every life, no matter how much we wish we could. Sometimes, the greatest act of love is knowing when to let go.

Blackjack may not have had the long, happy life we had hoped for him, but he was loved. His foster parent cared for him so much, and when he needed help the most, he was not alone.

Every rescue animal has a story. Every life matters. And every goodbye leaves a mark on our hearts.

Rest peacefully, sweet Blackjack. 🖤🌈

We wish we could have given you more time.

You were loved, and you will never be forgotten. 🐾

Meet Cabbie. 🧡 Originally destined to be called Yellow Cab after NYC’s iconic cabs, this handsome boy with a big appetite and an even bigger heart is ready to ride straight into your heart! Found surviving outdoors near a Bronx housin project, Cabbie made it clear from the start that he was ready for the good life indoors. He loves his food, adores being petted and will happily flop over to show off his belly - just don’t mistake that invitation for a belly rub! 😹

Cabbie is FIV+, a manageable condition that many cats live with happily for years with proper care. We think he’d thrive as your one and only, soaking up all the love and attention he deserves. After surviving life on the streets, Cabbie is ready for a full food bowl, a cozy home and a person to call his own.

Uptown Girl Needs a Home

Galen was found wandering alone on Nagle Avenue in Washington Heights. As it happened to be a spay/neuter day for us, she was quickly whisked off to be spayed, vaccinated, and tested for FIV/FeLV (she’s negative!). We named her Nagel at first, but soon jumbled the letters to make it sound prettier – Galen. Getting to know her has been exciting for her foster person, as she has slowly learned to trust. This one-year-old kitty might do well with another feline or maybe as your one-and-only cat friend. Please consider adopting her or taking her in as a foster-to-adopt. You’ll be glad you did!

Try Your Luck with Blackjack!

We first learned of Blackjack when a man called us to report a cat sitting on a ground-floor, outdoor windowsill for hours, not moving. We worried that he might be sick, but he turned out to be simply terrified. Most likely turned out of his home, he froze in place, not knowing what to do.

Despite his rude eviction, Blackjack has turned out to be a beautiful, trusting soul who just wants a human friend to love and care for him.

We think Blackjack is about 2–3 years old. He is vaccinated, neutered, and tested negative for FIV/FeLV. Take a chance on Blackjack! His luck changed for the better and so could yours! 🩷🩷💛💛

It’s Not Their Fault!

Harbor and Mariner were rescued from the Dykeman Street pier on the Hudson River eight years ago, as little kittens. They were adopted by an enterprising young man who loved them and respected their gentle but timid nature. They seemed to be set for life! But no one knows what life may bring. Mental health issues led to job loss which led to foreclosure, and suddenly these sweet, shy boys needed a new place to live.

Harbour is very vocal. He doesn’t just meow – he sings! Mariner is the king of “elevator butt!“ These boys will add a quiet dignity to any apartment. This time, let’s make their forever home last forever! 🥹🙌 ❤️
