HTDR Adoption Spotlight- Sophie!
Sophie is a 4 year old, smooth coat, red doxie. She came to HTDR as a stray, so we have no history on her. She is good with submissive dogs and kids, but cats are unknown. House training is a work in progress, but she is leash and crate trained. The crate is not her favorite place, though.
Sophie is a shy girl, she’s very sweet, friendly and easy going. She has an alpha dog personality and needs to be fed separately. She loves to be with her person as much as possible and will be a stage one clinger once she’s comfortable. She has some seperation anxiety and will howl when you leave, so an apartment or condo is not the best fit for her. She has no interest in toys, but love treats. She will resource guard her person, so she needs an experienced doxie owner to help keep that under control.
The best home for Sophie will be with someone who is home more often than not. And with someone looking for a companion dog who lives in a single family home with a yard for her to enjoy.
From her foster, “Sophie is a very sweet & wonderful dog! I have loved fostering her. Her main goal in life is to be affectionate and loyal. She is crate trained but longs to sleep with her person. She has learned the pecking order at my house, and has done very well falling in line with my dogs but will be happiest as the alpha. She started showing a more playful side. She has the most adorable little bark (sounds like the Blues Clues dog) & cute little dance she does when excited. Her potty training is going very well. She still leaves me a candy bar once on awhile but no lemonade!”

Adoptions for Charlie are on hold, we’ll keep you updated!
HTDR Adoption Spotlight- Charlie!
Charlie is a male, smooth coat, black and tan doxie. This 3.5 year old is a beautiful standard, weighing in at 21 lbs. He came to us as an owner surrender. Charlie is good with dogs with proper intro, good with kids, but cats are unknown. He is house trained, doggie door trained and leash trained. Once Charlie warms up to you, he is very sweet! He loves to be around older kids ❤️ Charlie likes to go for car rides, loves toys and will destroy any toy with a squeaker. He loves to play with other dogs, too.
We believe that Charlie had some trauma in his past. He will require an experienced dachshund owner to handle any potential reactive behavior 🌟 The best home for Charlie is with someone who is home more often than not, with another playful dog and with older kids.
From Charlie’s foster family, “Charlie is quite the character! He’s spunky, outgoing and charismatic. He loves people and is respectful to kids. He enjoys having stories read to him while getting his head stroked… yes he’s a tad spoiled, but who can ignore those soulful eyes? He appreciates snack time and comes running when asked if he wants a treat-o. Charlie was left on his own and has developed separation anxiety. He needs an experienced doxie home to manage his Napoleon complex. He loves to snuggle on the couch and get ear scratches. He will be your constant companion, following you wherever you go.”
If you or someone you know is interested in adopting Charlie, please go to our website https://happytailsdr.com/adopt

HTDR Alumni Update- Susie!
Susie was adopted in March. From her furever family, “Susie is making great progress. I took her to my cabin in New Mexico where I hosted a family reunion, and she sat on multiple laps, loved fetching her ball, and made herself comfortable on the couch with family members. She even comes and sits on my lap in the evenings now. Also her tummy is way less saggy because she is so athletic. It has been a great choice for me!”
Thank you for the update on Susie. It sounds like she was the star of the family reunion 🥰 We wish you many years of joy and snuggles ❤️🐾❤️🐾

HTDR Adoption Spotlight- Indie!

Indie is a smoothcoat, black and tan full Doxie. She's 3.5 years old and came to HTDR as an owner surrender/former breeder dog. Indie is good with dogs, good with kids, but cats are unknown. House training is still a work in progress, but she is doggie door trained. She is also working on leash training.

Indie is a sweet and snuggly girl. She is a total lap dog and always wants to be next to her person. She's not very active, but that could change as she continues to get more comfortable and build confidence. Because she was a breeder dog, she doesn’t understand what toys are yet, but she does like to collect socks 😄 Indie loves dog beds, likes to burrow under blankets and sleeps in a dog bed in the bedroom.

Indie is a person dog, not a dog dog, but we do feel that having another dog would be good for her confidence. The best home for Indie would be with a family who is home more often than not and with another easy going dog. She will need a family with patience, as she continues to learn how to be a pet ❤

If you or someone you know is interested in adopting Indie, please go to our website and submit an application today!

HTDR Adoption Spotlight- Zoey!

Zoey is a 4.5 year old, female, piebald, Doxie mix. She came to HTDR as an owner surrender. Zoey is a shy, timid girl who is protective of her people. She needs a proper introduction with dogs and people and can be slow to warm up. She prefers women to men, but in true Doxie form, food can help her gain trust 😆 She's good with cats and good with children.

Zoey is house trained, kennel trained, leash trained and doggie door trained. She loves kids and can be protective of them, especially with men. Zoey is a sweet girl who wants to be with her people. She's a lap dog and can be protective of her person if other dogs are around. If there are other dogs in the home, her family will need to work on correcting the behavior. The best home for Zoey would be with her as an only dog and with someone who is home more often than not.

From her foster family, "Zoey loves being next to her people. She lays right on or beside you and is always touching you. If you lay on your side on the couch, she will lay on top of your side. She loves treats and goes in her crate at night with a treat. Zoey is a smart girl, too! She knows “no”, “come”, “go to bed” or “go to sleep”. When Zoey gets excited, she does a little wiggle dance, we think it looks like she's doing the Lambada 😆"

HTDR Adoption Spotlight- Meet Tater!

Tater is a 2 year old, male, short-haired, Doxie mix. He came to HTDR as an owner surrender. Tater is good with dogs, not good with small kids and ok with cats. He is house trained, kennel trained, doggie door trained and working on leash training now.

Tater is a friendly, happy dog, who will be your constant shadow. He loves to be with you on the couch, loves affection, but can be leary around men. Tater likes to jump up on counters, he nips at your feet as you walk, but his foster is helping him with these behaivors now. He loves to play with toys and loves to play with other dogs.

The best home for Tater is an active home with another playful dog and a backyard to keep up with his high energy. His furever family will need to continue to help him with his manners.

HTDR Alumni Update- Toby!

Toby was adopted in June 2023. From his furever family, "Just wanted to give you an update on Toby as we approach his one year adoption anniversary. I believe also, Toby just turned four earlier this month! Toby has been getting along so well with our family. He’s always making silly faces, he’s caring, loyal, and loves to play with his dachshund buddies. His favorite day of the month is when we receive our kibble delivery. Toby is incredibly sweet and just a ball of energy. He’s the perfect match for us all, we are truly blessed to have and love him everyday."

Thank you for the update on Toby! He's so handsome and looks like he's living his best life. Happy Gotcha Day and Birthday Toby 🎂 We wish you many years of joy and snuggles ❤🐾❤🐾
