One thing I've learned in life is to value yourself highly.

Not in a vain or narcissistic manner but rather knowing your value or worth in what you can offer to others in regards to your profession, skills, talents, and abilities.

Then, and only then will others value you as well. 😉

This is a little ol' pearl o wisdom for you. Tuck it away safely. Don't lose it. Pull it out and use it whenever you need it.

Horses are amazingly tolerant, giving creatures.

It unfortunately means they’re often exploited due to the ambitions of the human. After their basic needs are met, you must be very thoughtful in the training of your horse.

Your first duty is to preserve the purity of the paces. What does this mean? Walk has 4 beats, trot has 2, canter has 3, gallop has 4. ALWAYS. If not, something is wrong biomechanically, and your horse is at risk of injury. BTW impure paces can usually be detected in a photograph, even though it is only a “moment in time”, AND this applies to all disciplines.

Strapping a horse’s mouth shut with a crank/flash (or other) noseband very often contributes. The fact is, a horse cannot maintain full range of motion with his hind legs if he can’t move his tongue and jaw. FACT.

For jumping, if the horse bolts off - away from, towards, or after a jump, putting on a bigger bit and a martingale will not fix it. If a horse hesitates or stops, pulling out the whip will NEVER make him more confident.

These are just a few hints that your horse is asking for HELP. Go back. Consolidate the basics. I have a FREE guide to help with this, you can download it now https://classicaljumping.com/next-level-freebie

Another wonderful thing about horses is they're retrainable. If you ignore the hints, eventually the horse will either break down, or will SHOUT to get your attention, and you will get hurt.

After all, horses are dangerous. We tell everyone that. But actually they are not. We wouldn’t be able to ride them if they were truly dangerous. You know what’s dangerous? People are.

Ponder this excerpt from Franz Mairinger’s book “Horses are made to be Horses”:

I recall an incident in Sydney when we had a lame horse with a very bad tendon, and the rider wanted to start the horse the next day. We asked Roy Stewart, the veterinary surgeon, and he said, ‘Yes, that’s the trouble. People always think that horses are made for man, but that’s not true. Horses are made to be horses’. I thought about that a lot, and decided that if I should write a book I would call it Horses are made to be Horses.

(Franz Mairinger was the first coach of an Australian Olympic Equestrian Team, his excellent book is out of print, but can occasionally be found second hand - buy it if you see it)

“THE DREAM THAT MANY WILL NOT UNDERSTAND:

My horses are my personal dream.
One day when I am very old and when I can not walk anymore, it will be in my heart as a trophy of my memories.

I met people who taught me something and have the same spirit and I met others that I'm glad I forgot.

I got wet,
I felt cold,
And I felt warm;
I was afraid,
I fell,
And I stood up.
I even hurt myself, I have been broken,
But also, I laughed out loud inside.
I spoke a thousand times with myself.

I sang and shouted with joy like a madman,
And yes ... sometimes I cried.

I have seen wonderful places and lived unforgettable experiences.

I climbed on horses that made me feel brave and excited...and then there were ones that terrified me......

I stopped a thousand times to see a landscape.
I spoke with perfect strangers, and I forgot people I see every day.

I went out with my demons inside and returned home with a feeling of absolute peace in my heart.

I always thought how dangerous it is, knowing that the meaning of courage is to advance even feeling fear.

Every time I go out to my horses I think about how wonderful they are.

I stopped talking about it to those who do not understand, and I learned to communicate with other riders.

I have met some amazing people I now call friends because of my horses.

I spent money that I did not have, giving up many things, but all these things are not worth even one special moment with my horse.

They are not a means of transport or a piece of iron with wheels, they are the lost part of my soul and my spirit.

And when someone says to me: "You have to sell the horses and you have to be more sensible", ... I do not answer. I just swing my head and smile.

A horse..... only the person who loves them understands it.
May God bless my friends and all their horses...
And the adventure continues...”

Recipe:

Olive Oil & Ground Cloves Intensive Hot Oil Treatment

1. Warm 1/2 cup olive oil in a small pan, and add 2 tablespoons ground cloves.
2. Heat until hot but not boiling, and remove from heat.
3. Let sit overnight, and then strain into a small jar or bottle.
4. When ready to shower, rub some clove-olive oil between your hands to warm it up, and then rub into your scalp and comb through to the ends of your hair.
5. Wrap in a shower cap and leave on for 20 minutes.
6. In the shower, rinse oil out (and rub into your skin as you rinse!) and be careful not to slip on the oily floor.
7. Shampoo as usual. You may need to shampoo twice

“I would have pulled Joseph out. Out of that pit. Out of that prison. Out of that pain. I would have cheated nations out of the one God would use to deliver them from famine.

I would have pulled David out. Out of Saul’s spear-throwing presence. Out of the caves he hid away in. Out of the pain of rejection. I would have cheated Israel out of a God-hearted king.

I would have pulled Esther out. Out of being snatched from her only family. Out of being placed in a position she never asked for. Out of the path of a vicious, power-hungry foe. I would have cheated a people out of the woman God would use to save their very lives.

I would have pulled Jesus off. Off of the cross. Off of the road that led to suffering and pain. Off of the path that would mean nakedness and beatings, nails and thorns. I would have cheated the entire world out of a Savior. Out of salvation. Out of an eternity filled with no more suffering and no more pain.

And oh friend. I want to pull you out. I want to change your path. I want to stop your pain. But right now I know I would be wrong. I would be out of line. I would be cheating you and cheating the world out of so much good. Because God knows. He knows the good this pain will produce. He knows the beauty this hardship will grow. He’s watching over you and keeping you even in the midst of this. He’s promising you that you can trust Him. Even when it all feels like more than you can bear.

So instead of trying to pull you out, I’m lifting you up. I’m kneeling before the Father and I’m asking Him to give you strength. To give you hope. I’m asking Him to protect you and to move you when the time is right. I'm asking Him to help you stay prayerful and discerning. I'm asking Him how I can best love you, and be a help to you. I’m believing He’s going to use your life in powerful and beautiful ways. Ways that will leave your heart grateful and humbly thankful for this road you’ve been on.”

Fun bareback soccer game with two of my teen students!

Last night was their first lesson together so we played a fun game of soccer. ⚽️

It made them control their horse with precision to kick our giant beach ball towards each goal, get it "unstuck from the edges" and steer towards the middle of the two cones without overthinking to score goals!

They tied at 5-5 by the end of the game.

And a fun time was had by all!

Rare Soap Box Time:

I have been heavily involved with horses for almost a half century.. 50 years...

No. You cannot know what I know in a few sessions.

No. You can't know what I do not matter how much "Googling", "YouTubing", "Instagramming" you do, follow or watch.
There is ZERO SUBSTITUTE for REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE.

No you cannot have my time for free or at a discount. Time is my most precious commodity!

You are literally paying for portions of my life that I will never get back so be teachable and don't waste my very valuable time!

No you may not "just try" anything with ANY of my equines.

No. I won't continue to help you if you do not heed my professional and hard won advice. Advice given from a position of much knowledge and wisdom, study and experience.

No. I'm not always right. However; I'm humble enough to admit when I'm wrong and strive to learn better to do better. For the sake of the equine. Always. Always. Always.

No. You cannot have x for free.

No. You most likely do not know better. However; I'm always teachable and willing to listen. I expect the same in return.

No. You cannot just mount up and start trotting. cantering etc.. warm up properly and cool down properly!

No. Equines are NOT MACHINES! They have a heart, lungs, they are sensitive sentiment beings and get tired, frustrated, confused, worried, happy, sad, depressed, anxious, are loving, angry... . . .

No. Don't rush through the motions! Take time to observe and pay attention to your equine!

Take notice of how they are feeling, moving, acting etc.... . . Give consideration to your equine!

No. You're not the master of the equine and they are not your slave!

They have no masters. They tolerate our ignorance and nonsense and deserve the very best care and knowledgeable stewardship from us humans.

Know Better. Do Better.

Learn. Know. Understand. Practice. Repeat

is the motto of my facility. .

Have a blessed day everybuddy!
