Marley was entered in her first trial over the weekend.. This was the first day so her first time. I think she ended up 2nd place that day... I hope to be able to trial her on cattle in the near future.

Bragging on Fancy again.... Put her to the test today and sent her to retrieve the cows from the pasture where they spend the summer... Fancy has never been in this pasture and it is tricky because there is a fenced off section at the far end and they have to go around it via a narrow neck along the creek and then it opens up again.. I had to have Fancy look back a couple of times but she figured it out and brought all of the cows... She is a rising star!

I have Fancy entered in two sheep trials and a cattle trial the end of this month... They were to be her first trials...but then one popped up that I entered her in on a whim... We didn't win but she was a winner in my book...Other that dealing with her handler who got a little intense....and totally missing one come bye command....I thought she did fantastic.. Good things to come.

Fancy! prepping for her first trial...coming up the end of May! There is a strong draw for the sheep to my right and Fancy feels it but she tends to cover a little too well and turn the sheep off course...They should come straight to me... so I take ahold of her and stop her before she turns them.

Posting about Shrek again.. He has gotten to the point where I can depend on him for about everything... I love using him...but now I have some pups that need to start stepping up and learning some of the more technical things so Shrek doesn't get to be the main dog right now... He has become quite proficient at sorting...and while I usually just have him sort off 3 to put in the training pen I recently decided to try a single just for the fun of it and to see how he would do. I have some heavy Dorpers and some light Katahdins in the mix. For a single I want one of the light ones because the Dorpers won't present a challenge.. But the Katahdins mother up to the Dorpers and can be difficult to separate one because they just sq**rt up alongside of a Dorper.. Today I managed to get in between a Katahdin and the others but as Shrek was coming in she was sq**rting around me to get with the others.. I had to turn my back on Shrek and call him in while I was trying to stay between the Katahdin and the others.. Shrek saw what I was trying to do and he came in and took over for me and pushed her out.. It was really pretty to watch...but alas...I didn't get it on video... The video starts after he got her separated and she had settled...

Shrek pretty much knows what I mean when I say cows or sheep...today he seemed pretty focused on sheep but finally went for the cows... then he seemed to forget where the sheep were when I sent him for the sheep.... but... in general... If we never won a trial I would still be proud of what these dogs do... Here Shrek gets the cows...but needed a look back to go for the ones on the other side of the creek. Then when I sent him for the sheep he swept the entire bottom then took himself up the hill for the sheep. I love that they will keep looking until they find them.

Second day of cattle. The cattle were more challenging on the 2nd day. Tina retired Drew which was a good call as one cow was going to be a problem for the whole run, it would NOT have resulted in a good score/time and the risk of injury to the dog was high..
