Hope no one was hurt last night…

These aren’t near as impressive as but this is Princeton, Hatter Creek looking west to Potlatch.

The first picture you can see the ground impact with what looks like an explosion. That would be just off Guernsey so I hope everyone is OK.

The last two are near darkness as it was winding down, then a gigantic flash and simultaneous crack. Sufficeth to say, I stopped videoing at that time. 🤦

I LOVE THIS JOB!

‘PERFECTION’ defined: The state, quality, or condition of being without a flaw, defect, or blemish. The highest possible degree of excellence, or ‘completeness.’

In my opinion THIS buck from Gil out of Cd’A is just that. A true perfect whitetail buck ‘specimen’ at his prime. Near flawless straight four thats big, beautiful and at his peak. 27 inch neck and balanced width, height and frame. Stout muscled face, physique, roman and features.

I’m just awe inspired of these beautiful creatures God’s given to us to experience. I’m grateful for a chance to restore them and even see one like this at his apex! Very much enjoyed this beauty.

THANK YOU for trusting us with him!

Something quite unusual about this buck?! Aside from the funky #2 on his left, yes.

Rory, who’s up back up on a fishing boat in Alaska for the summer season, dropped this buck on a cold November day. Walked up to discover someone else had taken a crack at him! I have to say I’ve never seen this.

Somebody sent a round that grazed his ear and then took off a chunk of base in his antler! I guess his number was up. Mother Nature can be vicious, but ol’ Father Time is undefeated.

Very handsome buck with a flawless cape. Congrats Rory and good luck this summer!

Now we’re cookin! Grateful to not have to bundle up in the shop! 😂 I do love springtime.

As a general FYI, all 2025 capes/hides/etc are still at the tannery. This is the only part of the process I have no influence over, but the finished product from them is WELL worth the wait. If its any consolation, they did update my invoicing, so we’re getting closer 🫣🤯

Who drew hunts out there??

ROCK AND A HARD PLACE!

I’ve had a good number of folks ask where I’m buying my rocks for habitat. Though you ‘can’ buy them in all shapes and sizes, don’t. They’re expensive and making them is easy for anyone and kind of fun! You can do any and all sizes and adjust them to a diorama’s color match as needed.

1. I use foam crack filler to make a ‘base’ size of the rock
2. Once dry, put on 9-12 inch sheets of white plaster cloth gauze in layers with lots of water and smoothing to blend rock transitions
3. Add a generous coat of cheap white flat paint across the entirely of it to seal it
4. Let it dry entirely then the fun part, get $1 spray bottles at Walmart and mix hot water with $1 acrylic paint bottles
5. Use 4-5 different colors to match habitat and regularly pat while wet to blend with a foam tipped brush. The more abstract the better!
6. I usually finish it with a near black light spray and when close to dry I roughly wipe off the high points to accentuate weathered look

THATS A WRAP! Connor Museum Job 4 of 4
Gigantic American Bison done in the 1940’s. Surprisingly still in decent shape, but was in dire need of a tune up and brought to life. May have disturbed a smidgeon bit of asbestos in that very old base 😂, but he looks beautiful (and cold) now! Thanks to Dr. Katherine Corn and the team at the museum for letting me loose on the projects!

Mounts On the Move!

A few traveling mounts of late with a dandy whitetail leaving on a jet plane for Alaska and a one-of-a-kind stud of a bull delivered to Redmond, Oregon over the weekend.

The bull had literally permanently stained his horns orange/yellow rubbing in the fall tamarack. Congrats to Sam and Kelly for the beautiful new addition!

Most of you know that gravity and I don’t exactly ‘get along.’ 😂 Everyone should know that no ladders were harmed on this trip despite quite an adventure up the gorgeous rock fireplace.
