Mals are absolutely no joke, and they require a highly specialized set of hands to manage that level of intensity.

I had the honor of working with my friend Sarah for an early morning session. She handles her fair share of Malinois, and luckily, she is a professional trainer and a decoy competing in PSA who knows exactly how to handle that drive.

We started the session with Vali, capturing a specific concept I call “Doggie Jail” for my signature Urban Series up in Anoka. As a photographer specializing in high-drive dogs, you have to be ready for anything.

Let’s just say Vali took the concept a bit too literally—she made a quick break for it, jumped up, and squeezed herself right through the parking garage rails. 😳

Ooops. Luckily, she is completely fine and unbothered.

But that is exactly the point. Mals are a lot to handle and definitely not for the inexperienced. They don’t see barriers the way normal dogs do, which is why executing a clean, architectural portrait in a chaotic environment requires total control from both the handler and the person behind the lens.

We have just a few board-and-train spots left over Thanksgiving! Whether you’re working on puppy basics, leash manners, reactivity, anxiety, or other behavior concerns, we’ll build a training plan around your dog and your goals.

Training is provided through Canine Evolution, with care at Country Pup Kennel in Princeton, MN. With 35 acres and staff on-site and awake 24/7, your dog will have room to train and explore, with someone there around the clock.

Your stay also includes a go-home session so you can keep building on their progress at home.

Have you ever thought your dog would make a wonderful therapy dog? Our new 4-week Therapy Dog Class is designed to help you and your dog build the skills needed to feel comfortable and confident in visiting environments!

We’ll work on calm behavior, polite greetings, handler engagement, and navigating distractions while practicing skills you may encounter during therapy dog visits.

Dogs must already have their Canine Good Citizen (CGC) title or demonstrate equivalent skills before enrolling. Our first class will be held at Country Pup Kennel, with later classes potentially heading off-site so teams can practice in different real-world environments.
