Hoping this makes your heart feel good, pals.

Our feeds are full of truths we should not be turning away from, and also our bodies were not made to process doom scrolling stress… so here is some Vinnie sweetness to take a moment to breathe, too 💛

Oh goodness, pals, this nugget holding her lil booper. The sweetest. She had her yearly exam this morning (yes, in -7° temps). We both dread vet visits, because she’s so miserable at them. But, we made it through and celebrated with a toasty warm car ride afterwards.

Stay snuggly, everyone, especially our pals in the same negative temps. And big hugs to our Minneapolis pals, we stand with you in solidarity. 🫶

She reminds me of Vinnie’s sweet face ❤️

This is Ariel, or as our volunteers call her, Sweet Pea. Ariel is our longest shelter resident. She has spent Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years living at the shelter.

Why is it taking this beautiful girl so long to find a home? Simple - she is a black bully who needs to be an only dog. That is truly the reason she gets so little interest. But, should that stop her from getting a forever family? We think not!

So here are some reasons why adopting Ariel – a black bully, is an absolute win:

🖤 Timelessly beautiful – Sleek, elegant, and always in style. Black goes with everything.
📸 Photogenic – Their soulful eyes and shiny coats look amazing in real life (and yes, with the right lighting, in photos too).
🏡 Great family dogs – Loyal, affectionate, and deeply bonded to their people.
🐾 Less visible dirt & shedding – Practical perk: they stay looking cleaner longer.
🖤 You’re saving a life – Black dogs are often overlooked, so adopting one truly makes a huge impact.

Now, please help us find Ariel's people. We know they are out there. We know she deserves a loving home and family to call her own. And with your help, we will find them!

We haven’t had a Vinnie swim video at .doggie.paddle on here for a while, pals. He still goes weekly and adores it! Laurie and I have noticed he’s in his old man phase with a 100% increase of sass 😆🥰

Gertie was adopted from It’s a Pittie Rescue on June 11, 2014 — where she was estimated to be 6 months old. I gave her the birthday of November 30, 2013 (tribute to my first cat, Qi, who passed on that day a year earlier — sometimes I wonder if they share parts of the same soul). When she came home she had just had knee surgery and was on crate lockdown for her first 6 weeks with me. They didn’t know her back story, and I hope it wasn’t horrible — but how you part ways with this little beauty is beyond me. Once she was fully healed, we walked everywhere (it is normal for us to do about 5 miles a day walking or hiking or running). She is one of the sweetest dogs I’ve ever met. She’s tiny but mighty. She’s funny and sassy. She’s smart and loving. She’s the full package. Three and half years later Vinnie was adopted from Players for Pits on January 1, 2018. He was a 90 lb, 4 year old (born September 11, 2013), black pit bull covered in scars from his mast cell tumors being removed. Needless to say, he was hard to adopt out. But those were the reasons that attracted me to him. And then once we met, well, it was all over. He came from a hoarders house and was never really trained to be a dog. The work Players for Pits did with him, especially his first foster Becki, was incredible. He still has a lot of things to learn — he just gets so excited to meet new people or do new things, and that’s a lot to calm down in a 90 lb pup — but he learns so fast and really just wants to be acknowledged for his efforts by his parents. This page is to share their story — to show you how wonderful pit bulls are as companions. The stereotype given to them, the horrible humans who abuse them, and the breed-specific legislation created against them is pure ignorance. So we’ll also share news pieces that keep us all up to date on what is happening, and share with you the efforts and needs of the non-profs like It’s a Pittie Rescue and Player for Pits who are working tirelessly to improve the world for these pups (and us too).
