Hi everyone, my name is Hewey! I’m a squishy, handsome, lover boy! I am about 60 pounds, 6 years old, and defined by my short legs and long stocky body! And, of course, my big floppy ears! I get along with other dogs and all people! Snuggling on the couch is probably one of my favorite things to do! I also like playing with toys and baking my potato-self in the sun! I sleep well in my crate or in my dog bed next to you! I would also love to snuggle in bed with you if that’s allowed! I love a car ride and hop right in! I’m potty trained, crate trained, and up to date on all my vetting! I walk pretty well on the leash as well, I’m just a little strong when I get excited! There’s so much to see!

Fern here! My foster mom also thinks it’s cute to call me Ferny girl! I was born Halloween of 2024, that makes me almost a year old! Unfortunately, I have spent most of that time growing up in a shelter with a couple of my siblings after we were all surrender at Christmas time, talk about a bad Christmas present. You might recognize my brother, Denver, as he is also a PAWS pup)! I am a little bit shy, but that’s quickly overcome because I wanna make friends with everyone including the kids next door! I’m working on crate training and housebreaking and my foster mom says I’ve already made fast improvements!! I love playing with toys and making new dog friends! I get along very well with all of my 4-legged foster siblings big and small although the cat scares me a bit even though I’m more than twice her size at 45 pounds! One of my siblings had a DNA test which showed they were part mountain curr, cattle dog, German shepherd, lab, and more! So if you couldn’t decide what breed you were looking for, why not get a combination of a bunch of them? I love giving kisses and can’t wait to shower my new forever family with them, I hope it will be you!!

Hi my name is Zoey!

I’m a 7 month old Doodle mix and a cross between a standard poodle and Schnauzer. My foster parent thinks Irish Wolfhound mix, maybe. Whatever I am, Im super cute. Just saying! I was picked up as a stray from a shelter in southern Ohio.

My foster parents have been working on my house training.
I’m crate trained at bedtime. I’ve been good left out during the day and am an appropriate chewer.

I love playing fetch and playing tug! I’m good with kids and other dogs, unsure about cats. Please supervise as always, because of my size. My foster parent thinks occasional grooming.

Apply to adopt me today! https://www.powellpaws.org/adoption-application/

My name is Tank! I am an eight month old Staffordshire Terrier mix; probably with Labrador Retriever. I am a male, born on October 4, 2024, and weigh about 49 pounds.

I have lots of qualities to win your heart and improve your life! I love being around my human to make sure they don’t get lonely, and to ensure they don’t get bored, I like to play, go for walks, run, explore and inspect everything, and learn new things (for treats of course!). But most of all, I LOVE to play fetch! I know multiple commands, such as “sit, down, off!, and shake paws”. I am learning “stay, wait, and heel”. I am potty trained and will tell you when I need to go out. I do reasonably well on a leash, and will help you put my harness on me! I like to sleep in my crate, but you need to be a little patient with me when you close and latch the door. A little bit of kibble dropped in the crate helps! And, I do really good in the car!

I do have a few quirks, though, because I was not properly socialized as a puppy. Most importantly, I do not do well with young children (under 10 years old), especially toddlers! I also do NOT like cats, so don’t even try! I want to play with other dogs, but I was never taught boundaries and manners. I tend to just charge right in! I am currently in training to improve my socialization and reactivity skills and I must say, I am doing really well! With some continued patience, socialization and good training, I can be the perfect adventure dog!

During my down time, I am very affectionate and like to be really close to my human. I also enjoy chewing on my toys. All in all, I think I will make someone a great addition to their life!

Love,
Tank

Denver is a Border Collie mix who is 50 lbs. Denver is just under a year old and his birthday is actually on Halloween which is fun. Denver is hearing impaired. Don’t let that discourage you as Denver has no idea and doesn’t stop him from a normal dog life.

Denver has been at the shelter with his litter mates at a shelter since December 2024. Even being at the shelter growing up he never lost hope. Denver is a very happy, goofy, fun loving guy who is a true Velcro dog. He also does well with other dogs as other dogs is what he’s always known. He would do ok also as an only dog.

With being at the shelter for so long comes its challenges. Denver is working on how to walk on a leash. He’s a quick learner so I’m sure it won’t take long. Also, it appears he has some separation anxiety. What this means is he needs a special crate. He does well in the plastic transport style crates, which is what he uses nightly and anytime left home alone. There are other crate options as well they could be used. He is housebroken.

Denver absolutely LOVES touch. He wants to touch you just to know you’re there and he will follow you anywhere. A true Velco Dog. He’s extremely affectionate and loving. Due to his hearing impairment we use the sense of touch to communicate. He may not know his name but he also won’t ever get scared of storms or bark at sirens. When we leave a room or need to get his attention we simply touch him. This gives him the ability to know what is going on. Since he has been hearing impaired since birth he doesn’t realize it. Denver acts like any normal typical dog. Denver LOVES toys. He loves the cloth type toys and tennis balls best.

Are you looking for a sidekick that will follow you anywhere? (He does great in the car) and are you looking for a companion who loves to be close and is affectionate but also playful at times?! Denver may be your guy!

Hi, my name is Dug. I am a lab mix somewhere around a year and a half old. I can best be described as very puppylike, and extremely affectionate. My likes include whatever you are eating or have in your hands, and my life goals are to get as many belly rubs and treats as I can.

Like most rescue pups, I did not get off to a great start. I had people who wanted me but did not take good care of me. It has left me a little shy. My foster parents have been working with me to get me acclimated to the world and it has helped, but please understand, while I know I will love you, I am going to bark at you for a bit. But, I warm up pretty fast and then we can get to the belly rubbing part.

What I need is a family preferably without small children. Little hands coming at me kind of freak me out. My foster brother and sister have helped me to gain confidence and learn some manners, so I would love to end up in a house with another dog. Mostly, I need good parents with experience raising dogs.

It is my hope that you will want to get to know me. If so, I can promise you this, I will steal your heart and most likely a few of your socks.

Opt to Adopt!

PAWS (Powell Animal Welfare Society) is an all-volunteer, all foster-based dog rescue serving the Columbus, Ohio area. Our volunteers rescue, provide veterinary care and find loving homes for abused, neglected and/or stray dogs from high-kill shelters in Ohio and neighboring states.

PAWS strives to eliminate the needless killing of homeless animals, one dog, one adopter at a time. We are in need of more loving foster homes for homeless dogs that are rescued from death row. PAWS can only save a dog if we have a foster home to care for it since we have NO kennel. Each foster home provides shelter and care, while PAWS provides food, veterinary care (including spay/neuter) and all necessary supplies such as crates, bowls, leashes, collars, etc.
