❤💓Friends, heartworm cases are on the rise in our area. Since January 1st 2026 to today, we have confirmed 32 positive cases of heartworms. This time last year we had 11 positive cases.

💧 Clean and fill their water bowls regularly
⛲ Consider adding a pet water fountain, cats especially like drinking from moving water
❄ Freeze some treats in water for some cool fun
💦 Add some extra watering stations around the house for more opportunities

We are staring down the barrel of some very hot days the next two weeks (👀looking at you Tuesday with your Heat Index of 110). Here are some ways to keep your pets safe!

❄ If at all possible bring your pets inside in the A/C
💧 Provide plenty of fresh water
🐾 Keep walks to the coolest parts of the day and always check the temp of the asphalt before walking!
☀ If your pet is showing any of the following signs of heat stroke, call your vet immediately! Signs like excessive panting, drooling, weakness, or collapsing.

In southeastern Oklahoma, we are no strangers to the mosquito. Besides being very annoying, mosquitos can carry a deadly problem for our pets: Heartworms.

We have had over 30 positive cases of Heartworms this year alone. Here are some signs to watch for:

😷 Coughing that doesn’t go away and continues to get worse.
💤 Lethargy
🫩 Not wanting to play or be active
