A dog may Resource Guard....

🐾 Environments
🐾 People
🐾Food
🐾Bowls
🐾Toys

and other items such as couches, beds etc....👍

'Resource Guarding' does not mean your dog is 'Aggressive'. 😅

It is a normal behavior in the animal world. ✅

However, we do not want our dog to continue guarding items or food as the behavior can increase in intensity. 🛑

Do not....👇

🐾Yell at your dog
🐾Try to grab something from their mouth
🐾Use punishment

All of the above can increase the Resource Guarding behavior. ✅

Your dog may know “Sit,” “Place,” or “Come” at home—but what about in the yard, at the park, or around distractions? ❓

Dogs don’t automatically understand that a behavior learned in one place applies everywhere. This is called generalizing. 🐾

Practice familiar skills in different locations, gradually add distractions, and reward success. Keep it simple and set your dog up to win! ✅
