What does a properly designed irrigation install actually look like once it's in?

Rainy-season tune-up checklist for SWFL irrigation systems:

→ Test every rain sensor. If it didn't shut the system off after the last big storm, it's not protecting your water bill or your lawn.
→ Walk every zone with the system running. Look for tilted heads, blocked spray patterns, and pooling.
→ Check the controller for surge damage. One bad afternoon storm can quietly fry a board.
→ Confirm your runtimes match the season — what worked in March is overwatering in June.

Most of these are 15-minute fixes if caught now. Left alone, they're the reason July gets expensive.

After designing landscape lighting for thousands of SWFL properties, here's the principle we come back to:

Light the thing, not the air around the thing.

The most common mistake is fixtures aimed at nothing in particular — washing the lawn, pointed at a wall with no texture, or bouncing off white pavement and blowing out the scene.

The version that works: pick three to five features that deserve attention — a specimen palm, a textured wall, an entry, a water feature — and light those. Let everything else stay quiet.
