Last week’s Full Moon ushered in a strong germination of Winter Rye Grass who have just peaked their little heads from the soil. This Winter Rye seed was harvested (by hand by an enthusiastic volunteer, Jason!) from last year’s cover crop at our old farm, and will bring life to our new farm! The Rye is meant to heavily cover a piece of our soil for Winter and then to grow strong in the Spring. This is done as a first phase of cover to make healthier soil for planting Garlic in the Fall of next year.

What remains of this year’s Garlic harvest comes to market in the morning 🧄

We’ve got big lovely Cherry Tomato Plants in pots! If the excitement you felt to plant a garden in the Spring has run thin due to the difficult experience of actually growing things, first, we commiserate, second, we offer you a chance to renew your joy, set the difficulties behind you and gaze upon a fully grown plant ready to produce fruit (no transplant required). It is important to keep the joy alive, have a little success so that next Spring you’re easily inspired to begin the learning again!

As the weather swings away from the heat, we are focused on all the things that will bring our farm strong into action next year.

We’ll see your beautiful faces in the morning☀️

Come enjoy a beautiful day at the Farmer’s Market tomorrow, about 10 degrees shy of today.
We’ve still got garlic, but looks like not for long!
And we offer a small indulgence, beautiful big Cherry Tomato plants that you can carry home to convince your friends and relatives that you’ve been successfully gardening all Summer 😉

The new farm is active on a couple fronts, beginning to refine precious compost for next seasons nursery and mowing down a pasture in which winter rye grass will be intercropped to prepare soil for our fall 2027 garlic planting. Gotta line those ducks up years ahead in this organic soil building business!

My goodness, this New Moon 🌚 brought a very new season! We are certainly blessed with rain and cool weather…maybe some of those heat stressed gardens will start to make a turn around this month.

We’ve got Garlic and the early bird gets the…Cucumber.
Some gorgeous Cherry Tomato plants are growing strong in pots waiting for a spot at your back door where you can sneak a sweet summer treat.

I suppose the true offering this little farm is making this season is the gift of scarcity…🙂 it’s hard to go without, you without a great Heirloom Tomato and us without the trade of funds to carry us through. But we all know, going without is like turning a page, and most of us could use a little change!

Finally a little reprieve from the heat this week! It gives the plants a little taste of the approaching Fall season, reminds them to seize the day.

The garlic is plentiful for the moment, likely the best selection you’ll have all season! 🧄
If you just need the certainty that you’ll see a Tomato grow this year, we’ve got several Cherry Tomatoes potted up big and with enough food that you’ll likely only need to find a spot with some sun and take the time to give it water!

The farm will come to life again, we’re certain of it. It will be something new! And as its new incarnation is shared with us, we look forward to sharing it with you.

See you folks at market in the morning ☀️

The Garlic is all out of the ground! This week we bring to market a favorite variety called Transylvanian, it’s loved by many, especially those who are a little extra cautious of vampires 😉

It’s never too late to take home a plant and give it some love, we’ve got a few beauties left.

The farm is enjoying lots of thunderstorms and rain and on Wednesday some fat blueberry sized hail! There’s some swiss cheese leaves still doing the work of photosynthesis.

A special thanks to those who are coming now and then to offer a bit of their strength to this old new farm! One hose clamp at a time, one bucket of compost at a time, one little boy nap at a time, we’re getting this business put back together…thank you for your patience (especially you hungry tomato lovers).

See ya’ll in the morning! ☀️

Heat and more heat, it feels endless…but it is not, the sun is already shifting south to its Winter abode. Each day is precious time for growth, give those plants all they ask for today and as Fall approaches they will pour out their bounty.

This week we bring the Korean Red Hot Garlic…oh boy, some of you wait for that one to come around all year long!

We’ve potted up a few of our nursery plants into big pots for you to simply take home and grow. If you were never able to get to garden planting this year, we just might have something for you. Remember, we’re still available for garden consultation, come ask the questions you’ve got, we’ll do our best to answer.

The farm rebuild is so slow right now, it’s hard to reference any advances. Sometimes that’s just the way it goes.

Humidity? We’re seeing some amazing gardening weather, both moisture and heat, such a rare combination in Pocatello!

The Garlic continues to be uncovered, this week Chimyan garlic is coming. She’s got a naturally smokey hint to her otherwise untamed Garlic potency! 🔥
Our nursery plants continue to be gorgeous and demand that we carry them to market. It’s just nice to linger at the Farm Stand and mingle in their presence.

On the Farm rebuild front, we are trialing a new Cucumber trellising system that could save us a ton of work. We’re also looking into new ways to automate our irrigation systems. If it ain’t smart, it ain’t sustainable!

These hot summer days, these gorgeous afternoon clouds, we’re listening to plants stretch out and grow…we return to market in the morning with a bouquet of garlic flavors. 🧄 Come choose from the Basque, the Tempest, the Georgian Fire, to name a few. All are new fresh potent Garlic, a joy to taste again for the first time!

We’re still tending to a gorgeous crew of plants…they haven’t quit growing in our care. Whether you need to fill in a hole in your garden or just get a late start on growing something to bring a little extra happiness, we’ve got plenty of mature and healthy plants to take home.

The farm continues to be under reconstruction, little pieces falling into place day by day. The farm now owns a dump trailer, we’re ready to move mountains! On and on we go.

Usually we celebrate our Independence by participating in the local Farmers Market, what freedom to run a small business and earn a living sharing our product with our own community! This year, we celebrate our Independence by taking a moment to share some Fourth of July traditions with our boy for the first time…we’ll be away from the market this Saturday, but back with you next Saturday 🇺🇸

A huge heartfelt thanks to the many generous hands that helped us get these tomato and cucumber beds made and finally planted this week! A few months behind schedule, these plants are so happy to finally get to stretch their roots and discover their new freedom!

Now that Summer has arrived and we’ve experienced some beautifully hot days to comfort your gardens, it’s par for the course that these Rocky Mountains offer us some cool rainy mountain weather. Don’t fear it, the plants will be happy with it and you can get out and revel in it!

We’ll be at the market with the first of the garlic, the little beautiful purple Basque Turban! She’s made it through a rough Winter of bold temperature swings that challenge her early efforts, you’ll taste her struggle in the first hit of fresh garlic this season.

On the evolving new Bowman Farm, folks are still coming around to add their bit of sweat to manifest this home grown Pocatello farm. A third bed was added to the field and temporary Cucumber beds made of untreated burlap and a simple frame are filling up the greenhouse where once your garden starts were tended.

Don’t forget to bring your gardening questions to us at the market, especially tomorrow when the weather will keep the wary away. We have time and would love to help your gardens in any way we can! See you at Market in the morning 🙂
