At Paws From Afar, we are appalled by Norfolk State University’s decision to appoint Michael Vick as their head football coach. Vick’s past involvement in the heinous abuse and killing of dogs for entertainment is well-documented. He not only participated in dogfighting but also admitted to torturing and executing underperforming dogs. 

Rewarding an individual with such a history of cruelty towards animals is incomprehensible and sends a disturbing message. We firmly believe that individuals who have committed such egregious acts should be held accountable, not celebrated or placed in positions of influence.

Our organization has boycotted the NFL since Vick’s conviction, standing against the glorification of those who harm innocent animals. We urge Norfolk State University to reconsider their decision and choose a leader who embodies compassion, integrity, and respect for all living beings.

Paws From Afar is thrilled to save Figgy, our newest little holiday rescue, from Harris County Pets! Figgy is a 23-pound Frenchie mix with the sweetest face and a personality ready to melt hearts.

He needs a foster home for just two weeks until we can get him on his Delta flight to his forever home. Could you be the one to open your heart and home to this festive little guy during this special season?

We’ve named him Figgy, inspired by Figgy Pudding—a sweet and traditional holiday treat, just like this lovable pup is bound to be! ❤️

This sweet girl has been through so much – rescued from a tough situation where she faced daily abuse, she was finally saved by Animal Control. Sophie found a new home but was rehomed multiple times, bouncing from one person to the next. After four moves, including a family with kids, Sophie started to lose her self-confidence. But now, she’s ready to find the forever family she truly deserves, one that will help her rebuild her trust and show her nothing but love.

Sophie thrives on snuggles, cozy naps, and quality one-on-one time. She’ll come with professional training support to help her adjust and build confidence in her new surroundings. Her new mom should be committed to working with the trainer to ensure Sophie feels secure and loved every step of the way.

Meet Faith, I named her this, to the shelter she was just 5 year old English bull dog! She was used as a breeder dog and then dumped in a shelter at 5 years young. That shelter was probably the best part of her life.

We tried to save her along with a partner rescue, we were an hour late. I am sorry humans failed you, I am sorry you never knew the love we had planned for you, I am sorry you did not get to feel the sun on your face, I am sorry you were treated as nothing.

Faith, In your memory we will do better.

Say hello to Fleur, a 6-month-old teacup Maltese with a heart as big as her little paws! This sweet girl has been through a lot, but you’d never know it from her gentle and loving demeanor. Fleur absolutely adores kids and gets along well with other small dogs. She’s a playful, smart pup who loves snuggles and being carried around in her very own bag – perfect for on-the-go cuddles!👜💕

Teacup Malteses like Fleur are known for their affectionate nature and loyalty, but they do need a home that will handle their tiny size with care. We’re not sure yet how she feels about cats, but she’d fit right into any family ready to give her the love and attention she deserves.
