Respect. It can mean so much to so many. And it's a simple thing. That's all.

When I think of rescued Danes, I think of the respect they deserve. They are adaptable, flexible, most of the time wonderful. They fit right in to the foster homes and their forever homes, as if they had been there all their lives. And considering circumstances some of them come from, you'd think respect would be an automatic reaction. But that doesn't always happen. Some people who are used to wh

at the standard of the Dane says it should be may think that the colors they come in, or the shape they are in, or myriad other issues, aren't acceptable. Many of us have been at the receiving end of this problem and it hurts. We love these dogs - the ones that have come into rescue and the ones we have adopted. It's important to remember that "we didn't breed these dogs, we didn't have anything to do with selling these dogs. We didn't impulsively and ignorantly purchase these dogs." (Thanks to Val Maurer for her knowing words). We just brought these dogs into our rescue program, trying to give them a better life than they had before we knew them. Simple as that. No conspiracy. The fact that some of them are white and hearing, white and deaf, bear scars, have blue eyes, have brindle or fawn patches, are black and deaf (yep, we've had one of those too), or need more than the average amount of medical care, it doesn't matter to us, you see. We don't have a standard for rescued Danes - most breed rescues don't. Although we do see many beautiful show marked Danes as well. All we're trying to do is help the situation of homeless/unwanted/neglected Danes. So please, if you see us out somewhere with our charges, fosters or adopted companions, take the time to say something nice - or if that's not possible, please say nothing at all. So, in short, we make the decisions we do based on the facts we have at hand and also, with what's in our hearts. If you agree that's wonderful. If you don't, please respect our choices, but most of all, please respect the dogs. Sandy and the crew

Ace is another of the litter we have available. He is a friendly puppy. He sleeps through the night, eats well, and is learning new things. He shows appropriate curiosity, is affectionate, and sociable. He, like his littermates, will be available after the holidays. Information on adoption, coverage area, application process and other available danes is available on our website. Link in comments.

Ruckus is one of the litter of 4 we currently have. He is a resilient boy. He is very eager to please and thrives on positive reinforcement – especially food. He is catching on to cues like ‘no’ when he has something he’s not supposed to have (my shoes, pillows, blankets, etc.) or is attempting to go back inside before he goes potty. He is very good-natured and happy. He eventually will cooperate when on leash to go somewhere he doesn’t want to go (outside in the cold, to the basement, garage) after initially falling into full out splat form. Responds well to soft voice and positive encouraging tone and will make the decision to get up off the floor and walk - he’s already making good decisions! He quickly read my dogs’ temperaments and so far he has interacted well with them. He’s adapted wonderfully to being in foster.
This litter will be ready after the holidays. Information on adoption, our coverage area, the application process, as well as other danes waiting for homes can be found on our website. The link is in the comments. We do adopt within our entire coverage area. We do not provide exact locations of our fosters on social media to protect their privacy. That information is provided to adopters after the application process and when a dane has been matched with the adopter.

Every Dane deserves a Christmas

Your donations help us make sure that every Dane in our care gets the medical help that he or she needs. We are all volunteers at Great Dane Rescue - every cent that we receive in donations helps us help them.

Did you know that:
A $5.00 donation buys a bag of treats for a deserving Dane.
A $10.00 donation buys a toy - sometimes it's the first toy a Dane has ever received.
A $25.00 donation buys a month's supply of heartworm meds or flea treatment.
A $60.00 donation buys a 35 lb. bag of dog food - about a month's supply.
A $100.00 donation pays for a complete set of shots.
A $450.00 donation pays for a spay or neuter for a Dane.
A $500.00 donation partially pays for heartworm treatment for an infected Dane.

It's an expensive business saving unwanted or neglected Great Danes. Our adoption fees only cover some of our expenses. We rely on donations so that we can provide for our Danes.

Thank you for your support! Link to our website is in the comments.
