This is Derek and Meredith’s story. We would usually post any story with the starting line of “Meet Derek and Meredith…” but you guys have met these two. They were originally posted in April 2023.
OK before you do that math and react, please hang around to get the story. Some of you ”glass is half empty” people have already judged us for having dogs for two years. The rest of you “glass is half full” people can’t wait to hear the entire thing. Well, we hope all of you watch this video and essentially help us share their story so that we can find their forever homes!
Derek and Meredith Shepherd have been with us since their litter came to us in 2023. They were severely anemic and dying. They were completely filled with parasites and they had regular fleas and stick tight fleas all over. We treated them and got them healthy. They spent a couple of months becoming educated in the farm life and just transitioning into the best puppies ever! There were three boys and two girls. Three of the puppies had pre-adopters as we advertised their journey. Derek and Meredith were not chosen.
One of their adopted brothers, Cody, had parents that initially wished they could take all of them, but they just didn’t have the land. We kept Derek and Meredith and continued their training and socialization as they started to grow up in our rescue. We constantly posted looking for adopters, but anybody looking for a Shepard quickly change their mind when they learned what their mother was.
After a few months, Cody’s parents reached out and asked if we still had them. Of course, we said yes. They then surprised us with the amazing news that they were purchasing a huge chunk of land and clearing the acreage and building their dream home. They wanted to know if they could adopt Derek and Meredith to keep them with their brother. The only catch was we would have to wait for everything to come into fruition and for them to close on the property. We were overjoyed! We decided that would be the most wonderful future for them and we held onto Derek and Meredith so that they could go and live with their brother Cody in a dream life!
Unfortunately, we received very bad news later that Cody‘s dad had cancer. Aggressive stage four style cancer. Our hearts were broken. Broken initially for this wonderful man who spent all of his time with Cody and his other pets. Who was building his amazing dream life for his beautiful wife and their fur family. Heartbroken because we couldn’t take his pain or his cancer away. He asked if we would just try to find homes for them because he didn’t know whether he would survive. So after alot of crying and looking at these two dogs, we decided we were just gonna wait. A man like that deserves a fighting chance and dogs like these deserve to be with a man like that (and his wife). Well, after months and months and months of treatment, Cody’s dad beat cancer! We did a little dance, threw a little party, and told the kids that they were going to be able to go be with the most beautiful family in the world eventually.
However, it turned out he needed an organ transplant. Yet again he was calling to let us know that it was probably a better idea to try to find them forever homes. Knowing what we know about recovery after transplant, we agree this time that it is the best route to try to find Derek and Meredith their forever home somewhere else. What we want you to take from the story, is that Rescue isn’t about taking dogs in and shoving them out the door. Rescue is about that happily ever after for every single dog. Whether it takes one week, one year, or even two. We do not regret having these two dogs in our care this entire time. They literally are the best dogs and not even one bit of their journey with us has ever even been even a small bit annoying. They are wonderful animals! They know no trauma, they get along with every living thing (farm and domestic animals) and they have a light in their eyes that is full of love for life and people. A light that has never been dimmed because they’ve never known anything other than the love of our Farmily.
So we are now asking for all of your help to share this story so that these two gorgeous animals can find their forever homes. They do not have to be adopted together. Derek is in foster care at the moment, Meredith is still with us. If you’d like to adopt them together, we would be happy to facilitate that, but they are definitely OK to go into separate homes. Just over two years old, between 40 and 45 pounds, fully vetted, great personalities, gets along with all animals and all children, no aggression, no food aggression, and just the best dogs there are. They could live in any situation! Big yard, small yard, travel life. We appreciate any and all support and shares that we get out of this video. These dogs deserve the very best life and we are excited to get them there! Thank you in advance for your help! 🙏🏼❤️🐾 ゚viralシfypシ゚
