Sometimes rescue requires making difficult decisions, even when those decisions involve people we once trusted.
When Cyrus entered foster care, the goal was always the same: to provide him with stability, medical support, and ultimately a permanent home where he could thrive. There were many positive moments throughout his time in foster, and we are grateful for everyone who played a role in his journey.
Over the past year, however, concerns arose regarding Cyrus's long-term care and future. At one point, we nearly finalized an adoption for him, but we were encouraged to allow him to remain where he was with the understanding that a permanent adoption would eventually take place. As circumstances changed, it became clear that a different plan would be needed for Cyrus moving forward.
One of the medical concerns brought to our attention was that Cyrus was reportedly experiencing urinary dribbling throughout the home and would require diapers. We immediately prepared to address what appeared to be a developing medical issue and ordered the necessary supplies. However, since returning to our care and transitioning into his new home, Cyrus has not experienced a single urinary accident and has shown no need for diapers. While we cannot definitively explain the difference, the issue has not presented itself in his current environment, leading us to believe it may have been situational rather than indicative of a chronic medical condition.
What became most concerning was Cyrus's physical condition when he returned to us.
Upon intake, Cyrus was noticeably underweight and struggling with significant skin and coat issues. He had extensive yeast buildup throughout his coat and paws, debris and irritation within his ears, and notable mobility challenges. His first grooming assessment documented a strong ye**ty odor, yeast accumulation around his nail beds and toes, poor coat condition, and concerns that discomfort in his feet may have been contributing to his difficulty walking.
We have personally transported him to his appointments, overseen his care plan, and documented his progress every step of the way. The transformation has been remarkable.❤️
Today, Cyrus is healthier, cleaner, more comfortable, and significantly more mobile than he was when he returned to us. His skin condition has improved, his coat continues to recover, and he is enjoying life in a way we had hoped for all along.
Because of ongoing misinformation surrounding his situation, we feel it is important to provide this update. However, our focus is not on conflict. Our focus is on Cyrus.
To protect his privacy and allow him the peaceful life he deserves, we will not be sharing photos about his new people or their location. What matters is that he is safe, loved, and receiving the care he needs.
We have included the groomer's report because it provides objective documentation of Cyrus's condition shortly after he returned to our care. Transparency and education have always been important to us, and we believe documentation speaks louder than rumors.
At the end of the day, this story is not about disagreements, accusations, or social media.
It's about a dog who deserved a fresh start. And today, Cyrus is thriving. He is healthy. He is loved. He is safe. And he absolutely adores his people.
