This is sweet Sammy, she was my first customer 8 years ago when I started this whole grooming thing. 💗
She’s moving to Florida and it makes my heart hurt but I’m sure she will be enjoying her beach time soon enough 💗
Safe travels Sammy! Thanks for being the first!

I’m back from London and ready to be back to work tomorrow!
I’m still adjusting from jet lag but I’m feeling back to myself more and more everyday 😊

Hey everyone!
Just a quick announcement, I’ll be gone from July 30 - August 8 to London baby!
My husband is doing a bicycle ride there so we are all going to support him and to see the sights.
Any calls or texts during that time won’t be answered until I get back, and don’t feel like a zombie anymore from jet lag 🤪
Thanks for understanding!

Keep your pets safe, fireworks scare not only pets but can trigger PTSD in our veterans.
Be aware, be considerate, and stay safe. 💗

Useful information for this awful heat, don’t walk your pups on asphalt or concrete if you can help it.

Good morning Schmelly Doggers 💗
This is Lola, she was the sweetest, spunkiest little Pom ever. She was so obsessed with my son, Harrison she had to be next to him all the time whenever she stayed here 💗
Unfortunately, Lola passed away a few days ago after being rushed to the emergency vet, to find out she had a mass that couldn’t be treated, so their family had to say goodbye.
I don’t normally post things like this, but I think all of my customers know how expensive emergency vet care is, and you don’t get that money back if your pet ends up passing away. So, a friend started a gofundme.
If you feel so inclined to donate, I know her family would appreciate it greatly. Thank you!

The picture above is of a dog named Ellie, or “Schmelly”, obviously enjoying her bath, and the mohawk that of course, had to happen. It all pretty much started with this moment.
My name is Mauria Smith, and I am, and always will be a “dog-aholic”. When I was little, while the other kids wanted to be the mom, or dad while playing house...your’s truly always wanted to be the dog. That just tells you how much I love them.
I’m writing today to give you a little background into me, and how Schmelly Dog came to be.
After different careers in my early twenties, and after getting married, I found the job that turned my whole world around. I started working at Tender Loving Pets Doggy Daycare in Indianapolis, in March of 2007. It was amazing, and the next 10 years taught me so much about dogs, and dog behavior. I never referred to the dogs as “dogs” there...they were people. They had Mom’s and Dad’s. And I loved every second that I was there, and made so many friends, that soon became like family.
After 10 years, I decided to try a new challenge. Dog grooming. I instantly fell in love with it. I attended the best dog grooming school in Indiana...Animal Arts Academy. After graduating, I was offered a full time position there, and although I was sad to leave my TL Pets family, I knew it was the best way for me to learn from the best. I am so happy that I did, because I learned so much in the few months that I was there.
After grooming in Carmel, I realized that I needed to be closer to home with my kiddos and started working at Terrie’s Indy Pet Spa in January of this year. It was slower paced, and really laid the ground work for Schmelly Dog to come to life. I learned a lot from Terrie, and was really inspired by how she runs her business.
After months and months of being pulled in the direction of opening my own business, I started paying attention to those signs pointing me to do it. I researched, talked to everyone I knew about it, debated it for months, then, I decided to go for it, and Schmelly Dog Grooming Spa was born!
I am so happy to be living my dream of being a small business owner, and to be able to work out of my home and do what I love.
I am very excited to work with you and your dogs, and hope to hear from you soon!
