Save the date for our Pest Management Workshop on Wednesday June 25, 2025 from 5:30-7:30PM.

In this free, family-friendly workshop you’ll learn to identify common garden pests and their impact on your growing space, what to do if you encounter pests in and around your plant beds, and how to mitigate them!

This workshop is part of our Food and Knowledge to the People Project which aims to increase access to fresh produce, teach skills to grow and preserve food, and provide opportunities for people-to-people knowledge sharing and hands-on experience that helps build the confidence to grow culturally relevant and affordable produce. Many thanks to the SWPA United Way Community Food Solutions Grant program for supporting this project!

Thanks to the generosity of Staunton Farm Foundation, we were able to start a new initiative. This initiative focuses on wholistic health, both feeding youth in our neighborhood as well as providing an emotional check-in during their transition from school to home.

A number of school-aged youth walk past and/or through our site on their way home from school. We’ve noticed that conversation with staff or time to play can support youth as they emotionally and mentally transition on their walk home. The grant we received from Staunton Farm makes it possible for a staff person to be on-site one day a week during this school-to-home transition period. This staff person will be there to engage with youth as they walk by…offering a greeting, asking them about their day, listening, and/or providing them regulating or grounding support that they might need.

Not only that, but we also provide a nutritious, hefty take-home snack. Food insecurity is an all too common reality in our neighborhood. Increasing access to fresh produce has been a missional mainstay of ours since day one and we are excited to help feed our community in an expanded way.

Though this is a small start (we are only able to do it once a week), we are hopeful to provide this essential service daily during the 2025/2026 school year. Are you an individual and/or work for an organization that might help us make this happen? Please reach out to [email protected].
