Temporary Wildlife Intake Closure

Due to an unusually high volume of patients and calls, our Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is temporarily closed to new admissions. 🐿️🦉🦆

Our Wildlife Helpline remains open, but please allow 48–72 hours for a response as we work through a high volume of inquiries. We are prioritizing emergency calls and are unable to provide patient updates.

In the meantime, if you’ve found an animal in need of care, here are some helpful resources to find another licensed wildlife rehabilitator:

When Open Farm shows up, they show up BIG.

You don’t drop off supplies like this in a hatchback—this took a semi-truck. Thanks to their incredible generosity, our team unloaded 17 pallets of nutritious pet food to help stock Ellie’s Pet Pantry presented by Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices and support families across our region.

Because of this donation of 16,000 POUNDS of dog food, more pets will stay where they belong—safe, fed, and home with the people who love them.

Thank you, Open Farm, for making a real impact. This is what community looks like. 🐾

🎉 An Incredible Show of Kindness from The Western Pennsylvania School For The Deaf Western PA School of the Deaf! 🐾

We are beyond grateful to the students and staff at Western Pennsylvania School of the Deaf, who raised an amazing $857.44 for the animals at HARP during their 2025 Penny Wars fundraiser! 💛🐾

The entire school got involved to support our mission—and the generosity didn’t stop there. The real MVPs? Middle School, who emerged as this year’s Penny Wars champions! 🏆👏

Every cent donated helps us care for the animals who need us most—providing shelter, food, enrichment, medical care, and second chances.

To all the students, teachers, and organizers: thank you for being a part of our lifesaving community. Your compassion speaks volumes—and so does your impact.

Adopted: Sassy's found her throne!

After months charming every lap in our East colony room, Miss Sassy finally met her perfect match—a loving family who knew she deserved to be the one and only.

She came to us last summer full of opinions (and sass!), but once she had space to stretch out, her sweet, snuggly side stole the show.

Last Friday, she headed home—ready to rule her new kingdom in style.

Happy tails, Sassy! 💕

🐾 Advocacy in Action!

HARP’s Executive Director, Dan Cody, and Board Member Kim Holmberg, recently met with Pennsylvania state lawmakers including Rep. Aerion Andrew Abney, Rep. Anita Kulik, PA State Rep. Jason Ortitay, Sen. Nick Pisciottano (pictured), Senator Devlin Robinson and Senator Lindsey Williams to advocate for stronger protections and better resources for pets and the people who care for them.

Together, we’re working to expand access to veterinary care, improve shelter support, and champion legislation that makes a difference in the lives of thousands of animals across the state.

Thank you to our elected officials for taking the time to listen, learn, and lead with compassion. 💙

Our Story

The Animal Rescue League Shelter & Wildlife Center and Western PA Humane Society, each with long histories of helping animals in our community, have joined to become Humane Animal Rescue! Earlier this year, our two organizations merged to form one of the largest animal welfare associations in Pennsylvania, tasked with providing enhanced services to domestic and wild animals alike. Humane Animal Rescue continues the legacies of the ARL & WPHS, bringing greater efficiency in animal care processes, staff training, and cutting-edge practices to one cohesive organization. We strive to provide all aspects of care to abandoned, neglected, and injured animals; reunite lost pets with their caregivers or seek new families for them; educate the community on humane care and interactions with all animals with the goal of reducing pet overpopulation and negative relationships with native wildlife; reinforce a standard of living for animals and prevent cruelty; and provide assistance and medical care to injured, orphaned, or ill native Pennsylvania wildlife with a goal of returning them to their natural habitat. Our open door policy ensures that no animal is ever refused shelter. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This page is for Humane Animal Rescue supporters.
