We brought out some frozen duck wings for the puppies while we had a family visit today. 🦆 They were a crowd hit, including mama Tulip. 🌷

🐾 5-Week Pupdate on our Tulip x Toby ‘26 Michigan Field-Bred Golden Retrievers. 🐾

Our puppies are 5 weeks old and growing fast! We’re right in the middle of the critical socialization period, and each day is full of learning and fun. So far, they have had three visits with future families. 🌷

🧠 Brain & Body Development
Following Puppy Culture and Puppy Brain principles, we’re focusing on:
* Confidence-building with new surfaces, smells, sounds, and gentle challenges
* Startle recovery and problem-solving games
* Early crate exposure to build comfort and calm
* Potty training
* Noise desensitization

🦮 Social Skills
Puppy play is in full swing! They’re learning:
* Bite inhibition
* Communication and boundaries with siblings
* Introduction to adult dog social cues from our calm, trusted pack members

🍽️ Weaning & Training
We’re starting floated solid food today, but Tulip is still nursing them several times a day and in the night! Mealtimes are also mini training sessions—teaching focus, patience, and engagement. #

🌿 Outdoor Time
Michigan weather has allowed for supervised outdoor adventures. The puppies are experiencing new smells, sights, sounds, and textures to help them grow into confident companions.

🎧 Sound training is fully underway and going great with puppy desensitization playlists :)

We’re building a strong foundation for resilient, well-rounded field-bred Golden Retrievers.

🇺🇸Happy Memorial Day🇺🇸

Tulip’s puppies turned 4 weeks yesterday! It’s hard to believe our time with them is half way over — but we’re soaking it all in!

These babies have had so much going on this past week, and this week marks the start of the early socialization period. We follow the Puppy Culture program to guide us through this critical stage.

Building confidence, one day at a time.

✨ Highlights This Week:
🤸‍♂️ Big extension on their indoor play area.
♥️ Human Interaction: daily handling, nail clipping (continues), and introducing new people to encourage positive social behavior — can’t wait for future family visits this week!
🔊 Sound Desensitization: household and environmental sounds to support their startle recovery and resilience.
🧩 Exploration & Problem Solving: the puppies tackle small obstacles and new surfaces (pavement, turf, crinkly mats, including going outside on the grass for the first time, etc) to boost curiosity and coordination.
🧸 Novel Items: at least one new object introduced daily (toys, bowls, textures) to build confidence around new things.
🧻 Litter Box Training: puppies have already started using their litter area and it’s going very well — a great first step towards house training!
🍽️ First Meals: starting on gruel tomorrow (while still nursing).

🦮 Personalities are Emerging
We’re seeing bold explorers, thoughtful observers, and everything in between. Each puppy is engaging more with their littermates, toys, and with us, and we’re tailoring enrichment to match their temperament.

We’re so proud of this litter — they’re sweet, smart, eager, and soaking up the world around them.

This is how nursing looks at 3 weeks. Tulip will lay down to nurse her puppies a couple times a day, but mostly she’s standing.
