Today is going to be bittersweet.
Despite our best efforts of specialty hoof care and pain management, Elsa’s current X-rays show further deterioration of her coffin bone in all four hooves.
Today we will humanely relieve her from all of her pain. It’s a very difficult decision to make…💔…

While the vet is here she will assess the foals as well…please pray that they are all headed towards good health 🙏🏻🙏🏻

The vet bill for the foals will be paid for by their adopters🎉🎉🎉

They're here at D-S Rescue

They're dehydrated and stressed

A few superficial injuries

A few still have umbilical that hasn't dropped

4 colts
2 fillies

They're exhausted.
They've all had some water, some Bermuda
They’ll be getting their replacer milk ASAP
Thev've all peed and pooped…
None have liquid diarrhea

Lots of scrapes all over their bodies.

I have big concerns for 3 of them…very young.❤️‍🩹
I also have a lot of FAITH! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

God has been beyond great to our rescues.
YOU all have been beyond supportive of our efforts!!🩷🩷🩷

Our vet is scheduled for Tuesday and none of these babies will be leaving here until they’re healthy enough to be moved safely.

Please know that I have three times the people wanting one of these foals than I have foals to offer!

We will be making the best decisions possible for these little ones.

Right now they’re FRAGILE and need rest, veterinary care and to feel safe.

This is just the start of bringing them to health… placing them is a bit down the road.

On July 10, 2025 the decision was made to humanly euthanize both Eleanor and Roanin. We never ever want to see them suffer and unfortunately that’s what was happening with these 2 sweet souls. Both had severe health conditions that even treatment would not help.

Knowing that they are running free, with no pain and no worries, is definitely bittersweet and even end of life care comes with steep financial responsibility. We have spent just over $1500 for these two and for a diagnosis/treatment for Jewels- one of our returning rescues.

We desperately need to recoup the funds to continue our mission and continue to care for those still here at D-S Rescue.

If you can find it in your heart to donate, even a little, it will help us tremendously.

As always, 100% goes straight to the care of the horses.

Long day at the vet yesterday

I took Liberty and Elsa for their specialty farrier visit…so great to have them on the same schedule!!

Not so great to have to make 2 trips to get them there🤣🫠🤷🏼‍♀️

While they were there, Jewel was brought in to be seen and has come back to rescue for respiratory treatment.

Thankfully her and Elsa can fit in the trailer together!!
Liberty FILLS the 2 horse - lol

Grateful that my little truck handled the 1800 # draft…🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

We’ve got something BIG to share with you… are you ready????

Liberty is a 16 year old Belgium Draft! Her owner has passed away ❤️‍🩹and she is here to get some help with her feet and then find her new home.

We had X-rays taken and 3 of 4 are in great shape. Her front right has a rotation of the coffin bone.

She will be seeing a specialty farrier for corrective showing on Tuesday. The vet expects that she will make a full recovery and be rideable with continued care.

Please help us welcome Eclipse to the D-S Rescue herd🙏🏻
He’s had a rough patch and landed here with us today💗

Your support will impact his life by providing everything he needs to be brought back to health.

He will need X-rays and possibly some corrective showing for rotating coffin bone/s. His last exam was about a year ago and he did receive some treatment.
We will need to follow up to see where his hooves are now and if further treatment is necessary.

He will need some extra groceries and some conditioning to help his muscles build up slowly.

He’s been ridden in the past, just not for some time. He’s upper teens/maybe 20…a true gentleman- kind kind kind horse💕💕

Meet Elsa…a 15 year old miniature horse that was surrendered a few weeks ago.
She is diagnosed with chronic laminitis in her front hooves and it’s affecting her all over…

She’s at the vet waiting on the farrier to begin her healing journey 🙏🏻🙏🏻

She has the absolute best disposition!!

Boy has it been busy… ANOTHER great adoption today🎉🎉

Wheezy has found her new forever home with James and Joni💗💗

I’ll certainly miss this little one…she has quite the character 🥳🥰

Huge shout out to everyone that came to our yard sale last weekend and helped make it such a success!!!

We raised $1,158!!!! And just in time as the equine dentist was here Monday to check out and float 3 of our newest intakes🎉🎉🎉

The sorrel mare is estimated to be 16 years old.
The gray gelding is 14 years old.
Sadly, their owner passed away leaving them with no home to go to. They’re both very sweet and it’s said that they’ve both been ridden.
Once they’re a bit healthier, we will begin working with them to see how they are under saddle.

The gray mini mare came from a separate home. Her owner rescued her from auction and did a lot to help her get back to health. Unfortunately, expenses piled up and she couldn’t keep up so we’ve stepped in to assist.
She’s incredibly sweet!! So easy to handle, just needs some work on her hooves and a thorough exam by our vet… this appointment is next week.

The needs of rescue animals are simply never ending-as is the number of animals in need.
You have my sincere gratitude for continuing to support our efforts to save and enrich lives on a daily basis.

We now have 7 horses here in need…some are extreme cases, others just need a little bit of time.
