THE REALITY OF RAISING A LITTER OF BOXER PUPPIES! 🐾😂
Everybody sees the adorable puppy pictures, those sweet little faces, and eight beautiful Boxer babies.
What you DON’T see is the absolute reality happening behind the scenes! 😂
Let’s start from the beginning.
Before the puppies even arrive, there’s the ultrasound, X-rays, vet appointments, getting the whelping box ready, and purchasing enough supplies to make you wonder if you should have taken out a second mortgage.
Then comes labor. Eight hours or more of watching, waiting, worrying, and praying everything goes smoothly. And naturally, puppies don’t believe in arriving during normal business hours.
Once they’re born, you become a full-time nurse, midwife, housekeeper, chef, security guard, and professional p**p collector.
Those first few weeks are serious business. Every puppy gets weighed daily, you’re constantly checking that everyone is nursing, gaining weight, staying warm, and thriving. Even a few ounces of weight loss can be dangerous for a tiny newborn.
There’s no clocking out. No weekends off. No sleeping through the night.
Then come the vet visits, dewclaw removal, deworming, vaccinations, and what feels like an endless supply of things to buy.
And just when you think you’ve survived the hard part, THEY LEARN TO WALK.
Then they learn to run.
Then they discover their teeth.
And apparently, they all attend some secret meeting where they discuss how to make my life as difficult as possible. 😂
We’re going through over 30 pounds of quality puppy food a week, roughly $60 a week in puppy pads, and enough laundry detergent and cleaning supplies to stock a small store.
AND THE P**P. DEAR GOD, THE P**P.
I clean up p**p. I turn around. There’s more p**p.
I change puppy pads. Somebody immediately takes a p**p on the clean one.
I wash bedding. Somebody pees on it.
I fill the food dish. Somebody decides it’s actually a toilet.
I’ve spent more time discussing puppy p**p over the last six weeks than I ever thought possible in my lifetime.
And these aren’t just any puppies. They’re BOXERS.
They wrestle like professional athletes, scream like they’re being murdered, chew everything in sight, and somehow manage to get themselves stuck in places I didn’t even know were accessible.
Meanwhile, Stella has decided that motherhood should be on HER terms.
She nurses when she feels like it, steals things she shouldn’t have, squeaks her favorite chicken toy just to antagonize her children, and then retires to my bed like she’s had the hardest day of anyone in the house.
And let’s not even discuss the nighttime farting situation. 😂
In between all this chaos, I’m trimming nails, cleaning pens, socializing puppies, taking pictures, answering messages, arranging vet appointments, and making sure all eight get the love and attention they deserve.
It’s expensive. It’s exhausting. It’s messy. It’s stressful. And it’s a HUGE responsibility.
But here’s the thing…
I’ve also watched eight tiny, helpless newborns open their eyes, take their first wobbly steps, discover their voices, develop their personalities, and turn into beautiful, healthy little Boxers.
I’ve laughed until I’ve cried, worried myself sick, and fallen completely in love with every one of these little troublemakers.
And soon they’ll leave for their new families, and I’ll probably cry like a baby.
Would I do it all over again? Ask me after I’ve had a full night’s sleep and haven’t picked up p**p for at least 24 hours! 😂
Raising puppies takes an incredible amount of time, money, patience, dedication, and love.
So the next time you see one of those sweet puppy pictures, remember that somewhere behind the camera is a woman running on caffeine, very little sleep, and the last remaining shred of her sanity.
Welcome to J-Barr Ranch, where the puppies are spoiled, Stella runs the show, and apparently I’m just the supervised help ❤️🐾😂
