🐾 SENIOR SUNDAY 🐾
📍 NMDR | Peyton, CO

Meet Tracey — a 9-year-old, 20-pound Bichon Frise who has the soft, cottony energy of a cloud that's been through a lot and just needs a really good nap somewhere safe.

Tracey is quiet. She's sweet. She is also, to be fair, not entirely sure about you yet. Don't take it personally — she's not sure about most things at first. New places, new people, new smells? She'd like to observe from a distance, process her feelings, and circle back when she's ready. A girl with a whole inner life. Respect it.

Here's the good news: when Tracey decides you're okay, she *really* decides you're okay. That shy, cautious shell cracks open and out comes the most tender, affectionate little biscuit you've ever met. She just needs you to be patient and let her get there on her own timeline — no rushing, no big energy, no sudden movements. Calm vibes only. This is a Tracey household now.

She's actually done really well in playgroup, which means she's not a total hermit — she just needs a fellow dog to help her feel brave. Which is why Tracey's future home needs a **confident canine companion** already in residence. Think of it as her emotional support buddy with a tail. She'll blossom. It just takes a little help from a friend.

If you've got patience, routine, and a steady dog who knows how to make new friends feel welcome, Tracey might be your next great love story. The slow-burn kind. The best kind.

A meet and greet at the shelter is required to make sure everyone clicks — and we have a feeling they will. 🤍

👉 Tracey — and so many others with just as much love to give — are all at nmdr.org/our-dogs/available-dogs. Someone in there has your name on them. 🤍

💜 Hospice Adoption Needed: Meet Jazzy 💜

📍Peyton, CO

One of the hardest parts of rescue is watching a dog finally experience freedom, love, and safety—only to learn that years of neglect and lack of veterinary care have left them with little time to enjoy it.

Jazzy is one of those dogs.

This sweet 10-year-old, 13-pound Shih Tzu was finally given a chance at a better life, but she has been diagnosed with cancer and is now looking for a loving home where she can comfortably live out her remaining time.

Jazzy is gentle, friendly, and enjoys the quiet company of both people and other dogs. She may be a little shy at first, but once she feels safe, she happily joins playgroup, spends time with her canine friends, and settles into her cozy bed for a well-earned nap. She may do best in a home with another calm dog who can help her feel secure and confident.

Through our Hospice Adoption Program, all care related to Jazzy’s cancer diagnosis will be covered by National Mill Dog Rescue for the rest of her life, and her adoption fee has been waived.

While we can’t change the years she lost, we can make sure the time she has left is filled with comfort, dignity, and love. Jazzy doesn’t need a perfect home—she just needs someone willing to open their heart and give her the peace and companionship she deserves.

Could you be the one to make the rest of Jazzy’s story her very best chapter?

Visit our website to learn more about Jazzy and our Hospice Adoption Program.

This is what partnership looks like.

This week, our veterinary team partnered with The Pet Cross, a mobile veterinarian providing care for homeless pets and families facing financial hardship. Together, we helped provide 17 spay and neuter surgeries for beloved cats and dogs whose families otherwise may not have been able to afford the care they needed.

Our team transported the pets from a meetup location to our clinic and safely returned them home the very same day. Along the way, we also sent families home with pet food and supplies to help ease the burden a little more.

The gratitude was overwhelming.

One woman wrapped her arms around us in tears and said, “You know this would have cost me $600, and I just don’t have it. I love my cats so much.”

Moments like that remind us why community partnerships matter so deeply.

Rescue is not only about helping animals already in shelters. It is also about helping people keep the pets they already love. It is about preventing litters, reducing suffering, supporting families, and meeting people with compassion instead of judgment.

We are so proud of our veterinary staff, volunteers, and partners who worked tirelessly to make this day possible. And we are incredibly thankful to Pet Cross for trusting us to stand beside them in this important work.

When rescues, veterinarians, and communities come together, lives change on both ends of the leash.

Yesterday, 33 dogs began the next chapter of their journey as they were transferred to our incredible rescue partner, Wayside Waifs, in Kansas City.

These are the faces now settling in, decompressing, and preparing for the next steps toward finding homes of their own. Before becoming available for adoption, they will go through intake, receive any needed medical care, be spayed or neutered, and be medically cleared by the Wayside Waifs team.

Partnerships like this are truly lifesaving.

When rescues work together, more dogs can leave difficult situations behind and move toward brighter futures faster. Transfers help create space, expand opportunities for adoption, and ensure more dogs receive the care and attention they deserve.

We are so grateful to Wayside Waifs for opening their doors and hearts to these dogs and for standing beside us in this work. Their team makes an incredible impact for animals every single day.

If you are interested in adopting one of these sweet dogs, we encourage you to follow Wayside Waifs and look into their adoption process so you can be ready once the dogs become available.

It takes a village to change lives… and we are thankful every day for partners who help make rescue possible.

When you rescue as many dogs as we do, you have to start getting a little creative with the names. 😄

While some of our dogs arrive with names from their breeders, many are named by our team — and you can probably tell we love a good human name around here. We also like to have a little fun with it. 💙

Some of these adorable pups are brand new and not available for adoption just yet, but keep an eye on our website to see when they become available and to learn more about our adoption process.

A few of these dogs are currently at our Peyton, Colorado campus, while others are settling in at Dogsville. No matter where they are, they’re soaking up love and getting ready for bright futures ahead. 🐾

Visit our website to follow their journeys and see who becomes available next!

Sometimes joy shows up in the smallest moments.

For Julie Ann, one of our newly rescued Dachshunds, it showed up before we could even get her bed into her kennel.

The moment she saw her blanket, she rolled and wiggled across it with pure happiness… soaking in a comfort that felt entirely new. And then came the food bowl, which she happily pushed around with such excitement and delight that it was impossible not to smile watching her.

It’s moments like these that stop us in our tracks.

The things so many dogs take for granted… a soft blanket, a full bowl, a safe place to rest… can mean absolutely everything to a dog who has waited so long for simple kindness.

Julie Ann is already showing us that beneath everything she’s been through is a little soul ready to embrace joy wherever she can find it.

And honestly… we’re already completely in love with her.

05/25/2026

Today, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

Because of their sacrifice, we are able to experience freedom, safety, and the quiet moments we so often take for granted… moments like watching a rescued dog feel grass beneath their feet for the very first time, or seeing a frightened soul finally learn what love feels like.

At National Mill Dog Rescue, we are deeply grateful for those who served and especially for those who never made it home.

Today, we remember them with respect, gratitude, and humility.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful Memorial Day.
