German Shepherd Rescue of New Jersey (GSRNJ) is a 501c non-profit, breed specific dog rescue dedicated to saving and re-homing German Shepherds as well as educating the public about the breed

The group’s founders and members have an in-depth understanding of German Shepherds, bringing decades of experience caring for, evaluating and re-homing this highly intelligent breed. Our membership is compl

etely manned by volunteers and is virtual. We do not have offices or a kennel facility, but work entirely out of our homes. We use foster homes to care for and house dogs in our program while they await their new pack leaders.

Warning: Cuteness overload.

Hula in training with her foster momma!

As many know by now, Hula was found tied to a fence with no food, no water, and no note, she had every reason to give up—but instead, she came back stronger. This little Belgian Malinois is all fire, focus, and love.

Hula isn’t just cute—she’s thriving. In her foster home (with 8 other dogs!), she’s already crate trained, potty trained, and impressing everyone with how quickly she learns. She loves having a job to do and approaches every training session with tail-wagging enthusiasm. Her eagerness to work, coupled with her natural intelligence, means she’s ready to excel in the right hands.

We’re looking for a home with prior Belgian Malinois experience (no exceptions) and a professional trainer already lined up. Hula’s potential is limitless—but she needs someone who understands how to channel her drive into greatness.

𝐇𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞, 𝐢𝐭’𝐬 𝐦𝐞—𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐨!👋🏼

I’m 1.5 years old, a big, handsome German Shepherd with a black-and-tan coat that turns heads everywhere I go. I’ve got plenty of love to give, but I’m looking for just one special person to share it with. I’d do best as your only pet—no other dogs or cats, please.

I can be a little reserved at first, but once I trust you? I’ll be leaning in for pets, back scratches, and showing off all the cool commands I know… in both English AND Spanish! 🐶🎓

I’m smart, energetic, and eager to learn, so I’m looking for someone with German Shepherd experience who can give me the structure and training I need to be my best self.

So… what do you say? Are you ready to be my person? ❤️ Please visit www.gsrnj.org to apply!

Today wraps up Give a Dog a Bone Week! 🐾 Why not celebrate the weekend and the dog days of summer by making these yummy frozen treats for your pup! You can see Ferris enjoying one -- they were gobbled up so fast it was tough to get a picture! 😆

Frozen Fruit Yogurt Treats
¾ cup blueberries (can substitute with other fruits, such as watermelon)
¾ cup greek yogurt
½ banana ripe

Add all ingredients into a blender or food processor. Blend until fully incorporated, about 90 seconds. Pour into your shaped silicone mold or an ice cube tray. Freeze until solid, 1-2 hours. Remove from molds and give as treats. Happy dog!

*Frozen treats can be messy, we suggest eating outside.
To store: remove the pupsicles from the molds to save freezer space. They last up to 3 months in a freezer bag.

Ferris—Belly rub lover, total people pleaser, and class clown— is ready to steal your heart (and maybe a treat or two). He takes after his dad's Malinois side in looks. Working breed experience required!

Let’s give these two the fresh start they deserve. 🐾

August 6th is National Fresh Breath Day! Rex wanted to make sure his breath is minty fresh for any potential adopters, so he was thrilled to enjoy these treats. (Recipe below)

Rex is a 3 year old male German Shepherd looking for a new home. He’s back with us and still searching for his perfect match. 💔 He needs a calm, experienced home—ideally one that understands shepherds. He's got amazing ears, a lot of young dog energy, and loves going for walks. Let’s help Rex find the forever he deserves. 🐾

Dog Breath Mint Treats
Ingredients:
½ cup Canned Pumpkin Puree (NO pumpkin pie mix)
½ cup Unsweetened Applesauce
1 large Egg
¼ cup Chopped Fresh Mint Leaves
¼ cup Chopped Fresh Curly Parsley Leaves (do not use flat leaf parsley)
2½ cups Oat Flour

Instructions:
1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
2. Mix together the wet ingredients and the chopped herbs.
3. Mix in the oat flour to form the dough.
4. Roll out the dough on parchment paper until 1/3 inch thick.
5. Cut out shapes and place them on a greased or parchment paper-lined baking tray.
6. Re-roll the leftover dough and cut until there is none left.
7. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
8. Remove the baked treats from oven and transfer them to a wire rack. Cool them to room temperature.
**Do not use pumpkin pie mix because it may contain spices toxic to dogs.

If you haven’t already heard Hula’s story, she was found tied to a fence with no food or water at only 3 months old. But this girl? She didn’t break — she bounced back. And now, she’s all heart, all drive, and 100% Malinois magic.

Hula’s ready for her forever home — but not just any home will do.
Hula is very driven and will need a Malinois experienced owner. She’s crate trained, potty trained, and thriving in a foster home with eight other dogs under the guidance of an experienced trainer.

This girl is smart — scary smart — and she’s got potential for greatness. But she needs more than love.
She needs structure.

We’re looking for a Malinois-savvy adopter — no exceptions — and a professional trainer already on board. Hula’s not here for couch cuddles and casual walks. She’s here to work, bond, and become the best version of herself — with the right human by her side.

She’s not a beginner dog.
But if you’re experienced, committed, and looking for a next-level partner in crime…

Hula could be your once-in-a-lifetime dog.
