We’re excited to begin welcoming boarders to Dead Broke Ranch! Our goal has never been to be the biggest boarding barn… we’re working to be one of the best. Every decision we make is centered around providing consistent, high-quality horse care while creating a welcoming, drama-free environment for owners.

Introductory Full Care Board: $475/month

As renovations and facility improvements continue over the coming months, please note that our standard board rate will gradually increase to reflect the added amenities and services. We believe in building things the right way, and we’re excited for our boarders to grow with us.

Your Full Care Board Includes

• Premium alfalfa/grass mix hay twice daily
• Barn grain provided twice daily and adjusted to your horse’s individual needs (owner-provided grain or supplements fed at no additional charge)
• Daily stall cleaning (7 days a week)
• Daily turnout (weather permitting)
• Group turnout, including an option for turnout with 24/7 access to a round bale (owner input on turnout groups to help ensure a good fit
• Individual tack storage
• Trailer parking
• Multiple water buckets in each stall allowing us to closely monitor each horse’s water intake
• Fans provided during the summer months, heated water buckets provided in winter
• Access to over 800 acres of trails directly from the property
• Year-round access to our indoor riding arena
• Boarder-only events including trail rides, cookouts, and fire pit nights
• Regular veterinarian, farrier, chiropractor, and bodywork days

Looking Ahead

We’re continuing to invest in the ranch with planned additions including:

• Two outdoor arenas
• Outdoor round pen
• Heated indoor and outdoor wash stalls
• Expanded feed and tack rooms
• Improved property lighting
• Boarder lounge with kitchen, shower, and laundry
• And much more!

Optional Add-On Services

To allow every owner to customize their horse’s care, we’ll also offer optional services for additional fees including:

• Private turnout
• Supplement program
• Schooling rides
• Riding lessons on your horse
• Seasonal blanketing and fly spray services
• Tack cleaning
• Professional media days
• Horse hauling and trailer rentals
• Training packages (coming in the future)
• And more!

Above all else, we want Dead Broke Ranch to be a place where horses receive exceptional care and owners enjoy being here.

The horse industry can sometimes feel intimidating or overly competitive. That’s not the culture we’re building. We believe in helping one another, encouraging one another, and creating a barn where both experienced horsemen and first-time owners feel welcome.

35+ hours of pressure washing.

That’s what it took to pressure wash the inside and outside of every stall in our main boarding barn… and it was worth EVERY minute. Many of boards that were revealed under the years of grubbiness and grime were absolutely STUNNING!

Every stall that’s cleaned, every board that’s scrubbed, and every project we finish gets us one step closer to welcoming our first boarders home.

And on THAT note…

I am excited to announce that Dead Broke Ranch boarding information will be posted tomorrow morning, with applications going live at noon! If you have contacted us to be added to the wait list, please fill out an application and it will be attached to your place on the list. If you have not yet contacted us, stalls are going to be reserved as first-come, first-serve pending application approval. If you have not yet contacted us, your application will be counted as your spot on the wait list.

A whole lot of work, a little bit of play, and a HUGE shoutout to the Dee-Mack Football team for spending time out at Dead Broke Ranch. These guys brought the muscle that a job this big calls for… whether it was hauling rock, digging trenches, and setting posts… the DeeMack football team jumped in wherever we needed them. These guys worked hard through some of the hottest days we’ve seen and somehow still made it fun!

At the end of their third day out here they got a crash course in roping… That said, boys, if football doesn’t work out, you all might have a future in the cowboy world 🤠

Every work day like this gets us one step closer to welcoming our first boarders, and we couldn’t be more grateful for a community that’s willing to pitch in and help bring this vision to life.

It feels pretty good to have our ranch truck revived after spending a bit of time getting some TLC in the shop… Huge shoutout to Illini Outlaw Diesel for getting her back on the road!

Today was her first real job back… hauling home a round bale. After months of juggling trailers, borrowing trucks, and trying to piece together every a plan every time we needed a bale, it was really nice to just get in and go!

On the way, I stopped by Revive Coffee and Roasting, looked down at my cup, and couldn’t help but laugh.

“Be Revived.”

I guess that’s the theme around here lately…. The truck’s revived. The ranch is being revived. Our hope comes from a Savior who was revived… well, resurrected. And apparently my caffeine supply is too.

(For anyone wondering, I got the Banana Bread Latte, and it ABSOLUTELY lives up to the hype.)

Here’s to keeping old trucks running, bringing old places back to life, and remembering that the best revival isn’t something we build ourselves.

Well, hey, friends!! I know it’s been a minute since we’ve posted an update… Truthfully, we’ve been a little too busy DOING the work to TALK about the work!

While the page has been quiet, the ranch definitely hasn’t! We’ve spent the last several months rebuilding fences, cleaning up pastures, moving dirt, fixing problems, and putting in a whole lot of hours that nobody really sees.

After spending what felt like forever wishing for rain, Mother Nature finally decided to make up for lost time. The series of storms we had made everything wet, muddy, and not exactly ideal for knocking projects off the list, but it’s hard to complain when the pastures are finally starting to come alive!

The grass is finally greening up, the stalls are taking shape, and for the first time in a long time, it’s starting to look less like a construction project and more like the ranch we’ve been dreaming about…

Standing here watching the sun set over these fields over the past few evenings has been a pretty good reminder that progress doesn’t always happen overnight. Sometimes it’s months of hard work, a little patience, and a few timely rains. What’s special isn’t just the grass or the fences or the buildings, it’s watching a vision that once existed only on paper slowly become reality, and knowing how many people have helped make it happen along the way.

We’re not finished yet (not even close), but if you’ve seen where we started at back at the beginning of this revival, it feels like we’re turning a corner.

So if you’ve been wondering what we’ve been up to while we’ve been quiet… We’ve been building. We’ve been growing (grass). And we’re getting ready for what’s next.

Not every night out here is loud or busy or full of sledgehammers and sawzalls! Sometimes it’s just a guitar, some saddle scrubbin’, and Trout supervising from the background like he owns the place (he does).

These are the moments in between the chaos… and honestly, they might be our favorite part. We can’t wait until we get to share these nights with all of you!
