I WILL DIE ON THE HILL OF: If you start them right and take your time, they DONT BUCK!!!
Jlo had her first ride today! After almost 2 full weeks off, getting her teeth done, and a chiropractic adjustment, she came back to work with her head on straight 👏🏼
I listen to my c**ts. If one needs 60 days of ground work. They get it. If they come along quick and it’s 2 days of long lines and they’re ready for the next step. They get it. If they are struggling with something and need a chiro; or their teeth done. They get it.
I’m not going to give every wrong step or bad behavior an excuse, but I will look into something if there’s a consistent issue.
In this filly’s case she did have a couple things chiropractically going on that could have been a reason for her reactiveness. I don’t really think that’s why but I still had her checked out.
Today she was much quieter and did not even offer a kick out at the long lines. So I decided to do the next steps and stand in each side of the stirrups. She didn’t care. So I worked on that a bit more to make sure, then sat on her back.
I do everything 5-10 times on each side. Up-down up-down. My c**ts will not have a mounting or dismounting issue. I am very firm on that.
Once she didn’t care about that. I will ask her to walk each direction following the nose and then attempt a trot. Sometimes c**ts don’t know what I’m asking and won’t move. I just ask until they figure out what I want and take all pressure off. That is the good job reward.
Trot 2 circles both directions. Walk around the arena and steer a little. Stop. Back.
And we’re done. First ride was a success and there was no bucking her out or silly behavior.
I will not climb on a bronc. If they’re doing that. They aren’t ready for me on their back. (Sometimes there is a man made bucking issue and I prefer not to take those horses anymore)
I believe 100% in my c**t starting program and these c**ts go on to be civilized citizens.
LPH from the ground up 🔥
There is no room for nonsense here l
