Some patient journeys happen over a single visit. Others unfold over weeks or months.

Lola's included physical therapy before her TPLO surgery, surgery itself, and another two months of rehabilitation afterward. Along the way, her family watched her grow stronger and get back to the active life they wanted for her.

Thank you, Michele, for trusting the Tier 1 Vet team and for taking the time to share your experience. Give that girl some love from all of us. πŸ’™πŸΎ

We introduced you to Dr. Jay Masterson last week, but there's a little more to his story.

His path to veterinary medicine wasn't exactly traditional.

Before earning his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, Dr. Masterson proudly served for 10 years in the United States Navy. He later returned to school and graduated from veterinary school at 32, about ten years older than many of his classmates.

It's one of the reasons he likes to remind people that if you're thinking about a career change, it's never too late to pursue something new.

And if there's one other thing we're learning about Dr. Masterson, it's that he's humble, genuine, and much more comfortable caring for patients than being in front of a camera...

We have the video evidence. πŸ˜„

We're looking forward to sharing more of his story as you get to know him.

There are moments in veterinary medicine that families don't always get to see.

A technician sitting beside a patient while they wake up.

A reassuring hand during recovery.

A few extra minutes spent helping a nervous pet feel safe.

Those quiet moments may seem small, but they're an important part of the care we hope every patient experiences while they're with us.

Another simple trail tip from Dr. Sean McPeck to keep in mind before your next adventure. πŸ”οΈπŸ’™

Whether you're hiking, fishing, hunting, or exploring off the beaten path with your dog, keeping important supplies dry is always a good idea.

And you don't need an expensive dry bag to do it. With a Ziploc bag, duct tape, and packing tape, you can create a simple DIY dry bag to help protect your dog's food, medications, first-aid supplies, and other essentials when the weather doesn't cooperate.

A little preparation can go a long way when you're adventuring with your dog.

🐾 SAVE THE DATE! The Fast & Furriest 5K/10K is coming to Palmer!πŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ•

On Saturday, October 3, Tier 1 Vet and AKtive Soles Performance Footwear are teaming up for a brand-new community event bringing together dogs, families, runners, walkers, and a great cause.

The Fast & Furriest 5K/10K will start at the Palmer Depot, coinciding with the Frost Fest Winter Expo! You can choose your own adventure: run it, walk it, tackle the 5K, or take on the 10K. And yes... bring your dog! 🐾

The race also includes Dog Fest, with dog-related vendors and plenty more happening around race headquarters.

Best of all, this event has a bigger purpose. Funds raised will benefit Dogs2DogTags, an organization dedicated to pairing deserving veterans with trained dogs to provide companionship, support, and greater independence. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡ΈπŸ•

Registration information is coming soon!

For now, save the date, tell your running buddy, tell your walking buddy... and maybe start getting your four-legged buddy ready, too. 🐾

Please help us welcome Dr. Jay Masterson to Tier 1 Veterinary Medical Center! πŸ’™

Dr. Masterson joined our team in June and is already settling into life here in Alaska.

He enjoys many aspects of veterinary medicine, with a particular interest in surgery, including soft-tissue and gastrointestinal foreign-body procedures. More than anything, he's excited to care for pets and families here in our community and be part of the Tier 1 team.

Outside the hospital, you'll probably find him fishing, hunting, camping, working on a vehicle, or exploring as much of Alaska as he can during his first full summer here.

We're glad to have you with us, Dr. Masterson!

Every patient who comes through our doors is someone's best friend, adventure buddy, or constant companion.

Whether we're seeing a puppy for the first time or helping an older pet through a more complicated medical journey, we never lose sight of how much they mean to the people who love them.

It's a privilege to be trusted with that responsibility, and one we never take for granted.

We provide routine and emergency veterinary care every day from 8:00 AM to midnight. πŸ’™πŸΎ

When you're exploring Alaska with your dog, being prepared for an emergency can make all the difference.

If your dog is injured, overheated, or unable to walk on the trail, getting them back to safety can be difficult, especially with a larger dog.

A commercial rescue sling is ideal, but in an emergency, a simple blanket can become an effective way to carry an injured dog off the trail.

Having a way to safely transport your dog can help you get them off the trail and to veterinary care more quickly.

We hope you never need it. But knowing what to do in an emergency is always a good idea. 🐾

Some moments stay with us long after they happen.

When a family trusts us during one of the most difficult days they've experienced with their pet, it's a responsibility we never take lightly.

Knowing that being there when it mattered made a difference means everything to our team. Thank you, Warren, for trusting us with your pet's care and for sharing your experience.

We are proud to provide routine, urgent, and emergency veterinary care every day from 8:00 AM to midnight, with hospitalization and overnight monitoring available for pets who need continued care. Because pets don't always need help during regular business hours. πŸ’™πŸΎ

🐾 Meet Mush πŸ’™

Some of our favorite moments are the simple ones.

A happy face. A little reassurance. A paw held by someone who cares.

Every pet who comes through our doors has their own personality, their own story, and a family who loves them. Getting to know our patients and helping them feel safe is a part of the care we provide every day.

Thanks for letting us share this sweet moment with you, Moosh. 🐢
