Sometimes I move away when you reach for me.

Sometimes I pull my paw back.

Sometimes I duck my head when you pick up the harness.

Sometimes I wriggle, fidget, freeze, or back away.

And sometimes... if I've run out of other ways to tell you, I might growl.

I'm not trying to upset you.

I'm not trying to make life difficult.

I'm trying to explain something the only way I know how.

You see, when something feels uncomfortable, worrying, or just a bit too much, I can't say:

💛 "Could we slow down?"

💛 "I'm not quite ready."

💛 "Can I have a break?"

💛 "I'm trying, but this feels hard."

So I say it with my body instead.

The problem is, my quiet signals are easy to miss.

A glance away.

A yawn.

A paw lift.

A little bit of tension.

A tiny shift backwards.

And if those signals don't work, sometimes I have to make them bigger.

Not because I'm naughty.

Not because I'm stubborn.

Not because I want to be difficult.

Because I'm hoping you'll understand what I'm trying to say.

The humans who make the biggest difference are the ones who notice.

The ones who listen.

The ones who say:

💛 "I hear you."

💛 "Let's take a moment."

💛 "We'll figure this out together."

And that's when things start to feel safe.
