🐾Here are some perfect examples of hidden matting.🙁
Many pet owners brush the fluffy hair they can see, but matting often forms underneath, tight against the skin. From the surface, the coat may appear brushed and maintained while a dense layer of compacted hair continues to grow below.
The concern isn't just the matting itself..it's what may be hiding underneath. Severe matting can conceal skin irritation, sores, abrasions, moisture buildup, infections, and other issues that aren't visible until the coat is removed.
🐾Matting also restricts airflow and constantly pulls on the skin, causing discomfort with normal movement.
Regular brushing should reach all the way to the skin, not just the outer layer of the coat. A fluffy appearance doesn't always mean the coat is mat-free.
