Have a hard time remembering to give that monthly heartworm pill? We have the solution! A single injection of ProHeart 12 will give your dog a year of protection against heartworms. Ask about adding it to your pet's spay or neuter appointment!

Did you know that while heartworms have been found in all 50 states, the Southeast region has the highest incidence of these nasty parasites due to our weather. Warm, wet weather is perfect for mosquitoes and we have a LOT of that.

Monthly prevention can range from $8-$30 per dose and treatment of a heartworm positive dog with the recommended melarsamine injections averages $600-$1200. By comparison, a ProHeart 12 injection breaks down to $4 - $15 per month.

Don't forget, tomorrow is the last day your vet is open before the fireworks start!!! If your pet needs something to take the edge off, call them now!

Also, if your pet isn't wearing a collar with contact information, put one on. If you haven't checked the microchip contact info recently, double check it to make sure it's up to date. More pets go missing in the US on the 4th of July than any other day of the year. The lights are pretty, but the booms are scary!

Now's the time to call your vet if your pet experiences thunderstorm or fireworks anxiety! Don't wait until July 3rd to ask for that refill. Remember to check that your pet's microchip information is correct. Every year, the 4th of July is the day that the most pets go missing.

It's officially SUMMER!!!🌞 Don't forget that dogs aren't able to cool themselves as efficiently as we are since they can't sweat. Heat stroke is a very real and very dangerous condition that we unfortunately see a lot of in this area.

Signs of heatstroke in dogs include:
*Excessive panting
*Reddened gums/mucous membranes
*Tachycardia (fast heart rate)
*Dehydration
*Elevated temperature (104 F and above)
*Vomiting (with or without blood)
*Diarrhea (with or without blood)
*Disorientation/stumbling
*Weakness/collapse
*Seizures/death

If you are seeing these signs in your dog, bring them into a cool environment immediately and seek out veterinary care.
